Topic: want to see 11 inch shock on bike picture

Got the 11" shocks for $79 incl shipping from CycleX.  Guess I'll see in a couple weeks how this goes.  How has everyone been mounting their shocks?  Bike on center stand, rear wheel off, old shocks off, new shocks on (compressed?  grease swingarm while I'm in there?) rear wheel on, bike off centerstand?  Is it that easy?

...because I'm lucky to know which end of the wrench to use when (18mm will open a beer bottle, or close, right?) just want to know if I need to compress the new shock, cuz I don't have the equipment to do that.  Will I need a jack or something to raisethe front, then, if I loosen up the 2 clamps on the triple tree (er, 4... one up higher, one down lower, if I remember right...?) to slide it up, then go too far, or do I go without a jack, loosen it up and be very careful not to go too far?

Maybe I'm missing something here but I didn't do any of that to change my shocks. I put the bike on the center stand. had a buddy hold the wheel up, took the shocks off and then put the new ones on. I didn't remove the wheel or compress anything. As for the front I just put a piece of rubber in between the clubmans and the top of the fork tubes, loosened everything and let it slide.

I can see holding up the wheel, but I'm having a hard time visualizing the piece of rubber thing for the front...

I just put a small but thick piece of rubber directly under the clubmans right above the fork tube bolts so that when the forks slide up they didn't damage the clubmans and me and a friend lessened the bolts on the trees and while holding the bars let the frontend slide down. the clubmans aren't directly over top of the tubes but the rubber wound up pinching in between the fork tube bolts and the bars. Sorry I cant think of a better way to explain it.

ohhhh I get it, I think.  Did you have the bike on the center stand for this?  Front wheel off or not? just want to make sure I get the forks exactly even, and probably an inch (?) or two (?) for the 11" shocks?

thats sorta what I figured, but is a utility knife going to do the job? and could you just use the stock seat cover pulled around the pan farther??

I used the stock cover, did`nt even trim the excess as that seat was a quikee ghetto job to get me thru the summer. Just pulled it tight and rolled the excess under&secured with duct tape (I did say ghetto ha ha). I`d like to re-do it over the winter...strike that, I`d LIKE to get me one of those super nice Guilari re-pops buuuut I`ll havta see how the $$$ plays out, otherwise it`ll be another year of e-cheeeepo seat.

Front wheel was on and the bike was on the center stand. As long as the two pieces of rubber are the same size it should be even on both sides.

Don't have clubmans, have the oldschool stock pullbacks, but I think I can rig something up with what you've said. Thanks

doesnt matter, it really looks awesome and does make the bike for me as well
