Rush on Colbert
« on: July 17, 2008, 10:02:24 AM »
Anyone catch it?

http://www.comedycentral.com/colbertreport/videos.jhtml?videoId=176340

One of my favorite bands and Neil Peart and Alex Lifeson are both motorcyclists.  I'm reading Peart's book Ghost Rider at the moment.  So far, I'm enjoying it.

Sorry but rush can wipe my butt, at least their manly woman of a singer can. Remove his cat voice and the music is great.

Sheesh.  Different strokes for different folks, but why so derogatory?

We saw Rush in concert last month, and it was an amazing performance.  Glad I finally got to see them live, since there is no telling how much longer they'll keep going out on the road.

Read me again guys. The music is great. it is the singer that grates on my nerves. When I was younger, I thought the singer was a woman. An "indigo girls" style woman if you get my meaning.

I read it again.  They can wipe your butt.  Can't read more than one meaning into that.   ::)   Kind of unusual for someone to go off like that.

I saw 'em back in 85 or so.  Great band.  I have about 12 of their 17 or so albums / CDs.  Missing a few very early (Rush, Caress of Steel) and a few of the latest.

I have Ghost Rider.  Bought it when it first came out.  What a powerful story.

Also bought Roadshow - Landscape with Drums  A Concert Tour By Motorcycle.  It's even better, since there's not the underlying tragedy of Ghost Rider, and the very interesting behind-the-scenes of a modern day rock tour.  Reading it again even now.

You just offended most of Canada. But we're use to it  ;D

OK, here goes...

Seems uncalled for.  You don't like his voice, that's cool.  But many do.  Just like Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and any number of other unconventional singers have their fans and detractors.  What does your butt have to do with it?

Or better yet, listen to "La Villa Strangiato" (if you're bored with 2112, that is). Those guys are incredibly talented, and Neil Peart is a veritable God.

Sounds are one of those things I get strong opinions and anger about.  I can't tolerate annoying sounds.  So I understand if Eldar has a strong negative opinion as I do the same thing.  I've thrown a bottle across a restaurant to knock out a radio.  I'm strangely touchy that way.

Some days Geddy Lee's voice grates on my nerves, some days not.

At any rate, I saw Colbert tonight and saw them.  I enjoyed it.  I had a few good laughs at the interview.

Alright now, ALL the "boy" bands suck!! Personally I think their smoke of choice is monkey pole but that is just my thoughts!

OK I wll rephrase, Geddy can wipe my butt. The rest are good! Is that better cause that is as far as I can go! :D

I brought my butt into this as I think it can make better noises then he can! ;D

Maybe Bryan Adams should sing for rush!

I find it interesting that if you don't agree with or like someone that they somehow owe you.

I've known a few females of the species like that, but you're the first male.

I am not sure where you come up with the "owe me" part. I merely stated I think he stinks. Are you one of those that believes no one can ever make fun of rush? If so, I can make up more stuff! ;D
this could be almost as much fun as picking on trekies!

I shall destroy you all with my intergalactic spam cruiser!!!! :D

So I think he sucks, big deal. Never did I say he owed me anything.

Geddy can wipe my butt.  ;D

Geddy can wipe my butt. Hmmmm. The lead singer of rush needs to perform a gratuitous wiping of your behind because you don't like his music. At least that's how I interpret it.

I don't care at all that you don't like Rush, in fact I really don't care for them either.

You go ahead and take the last word eldy, you're going to anyway.

Funny.  Celine Dion actually did wipe my butt.  She's not as gentle as you'd expect.  I was a little sore.

Today's Tom Sawyer gets high on you
The butts that he wipes he gets clean of poo

De de de de doo doo de de de de doo doo doo dum dum dum dum

Doo doo do dum (drum fill)  Doo doo do dum (drum fill) ...

Aaaanyway.

I went over to Amazon and read a little of Ghost Rider, bunghole.  I'm not sure about it.  It seems a little forced(?) with the descriptive terms, noting that the bike was red, the trees were wet etc.  Just a bit awkward.  I'm guessing it's fiction.  It doesn't read like an account of something that actually happened.  Is it his first book?

It's his fourth book or something.  His 19 year old daughter died in a car crash on her way to college and within 10 months, his common-law wife of 22 years was diagnosed and died of cancer.  He decided to take off on his bike for a ride around North America.

Well I do get the comment about Geddy about his voice... Not quite my favourite sound but as to his musical skills he just complements the others. I've seen them twice now and loved their performances. Some songs (like Tom Sawyer) I love his voice, others it just gets on my nerves...

PS I shouldn't let this post be viewed by my boyfriend cause this is pure blasphemy to him. "Rush is it".

PPS Isn't this the definition of ART.. it provokes "a" reaction  :P

PPPS Loved the clip!

Rush was one of my favorite bands for many years. Moving Pictures was my first album I ever bought. This was my 4th grade year. My best friend and I had a tradition on the last day of school where I would show up at his house in the morning before school and we would blast "Farewell to Kings" really loud, then get our stuff together and head off to school. This friend of mine died 2 years ago this August from a long battle of cystic fibrosis. So even though my taste in music has broadened and you may even say it's changed, but Rush will always have a special place in my heart.

Rest in Peace Brian...
