Multi-Discharge CDI??
« on: July 16, 2008, 10:45:18 PM »
I remember reading about the transistorized ignition that Hondaman built for the 750s, and that it made quite a difference with regards to high-RPM spark performance. I was wondering if anyone has considered building a multi-discharge CDI? Would make much of a difference?? I found a PDF with everything you need to build a helluva CDI system here:

Nobody? The PDF describes, in detail, every aspect in building, installing, and timing this CDI unit... It's really not that complicated.

G'day. I suggest that you go ahead and build and install the unit. Let us know how you go. Make sure that your coils and leads are in good condition. Use your existing points as the triggers and set it up so that you can easily go back to the original system in case of trouble. Many years ago I built a number of these systems and fortunately I did not have any of the troubles that are described in your link. Pat

Hi Doug/Pinhead
Thank You for the file. I have down loaded it for future reference. I have a Bultaco that I hope to get to work on this winter and would like to go with a CDI on it. I have a Hondman Ignition that I plan to have installed on my CB400F1 very soon. I am of the school that sees CDI as a two stroke thing. Unless you are using a whole lot of boost.

Someone posted this http://www.geocities.com/loudgpz/GPZheiModForPoints.html and I plan to try it out.  I'd like to swap the points for a hall effect sensor to make it more weather proof.

A lot of these old bike are two-stroke ;) ring and valve blow-by lubricates the upper end!  ;D
