Now to be fair, I realize not everybody is on the same wavelength, and not everybody  likes every member they chat with on here..


but  when you see them ride by within 800 ft of your place you do get to wondering a bit..

 So just incase,  I will say again.. any member on this forum is invited to drop in to the shop.. anytime.., just pm me to make sure we get a time that works for both of us..

For privacy, the member list doesn't provide detailed information, but this will tell you a bit about how many SOHC/4 members live in your area.

Ive passed a house on RT 119, NH the last few times Ive been passing that way and I keep seeing this sunrise orange 1974/1973 stock CB750 out front. I was going to stop in and say hello last weekend but as I was coming back that way from VT, I saw him pass me on the road going the opposite direction...oh well next time....its always good to chat to fellow SOHCers no matter who they are.

I meant to check the feature out to see if it turned up more than just me in my area.  You answered my question.  I'll still check it out since I'd like to get together with some of the folks around.  -Never did get to ride to the mini car museum and blue moon cycles with fuzzybutt.  I hope to get to meet droopy since he's not too far from here. 

I've really enjoyed meeting the members I've met so far.  Everyone, do yourself a favor and buy something from someone out of state that's too big to ship.  And do yourself another favor and allow time to sleep so you don't end up coming off as a sleep deprived psychotic when you meet whoever.   

With the busy lives we have, it's too easy to pass by a person or place that you'd otherwise stop to see.  I try to keep the "stop and smell the roses" philosophy and sometimes say screw it to the pressures of life.

Just thinking out loud here, and I don't even know if it's possible, but how great would it be if there was some sort of mod or app that would allow us to put all of the members on a google map.  I am not sure how that would work with privacy issues, although with the recent mod that shows where we are located in the user info column, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to put those on a map.  If you don't want people to know where you are, just don't put your info down.  If there isn't some automated way to do it, I don't think it would work because I don't know anyone who would want to manually put those pins on a map and tag them with a username.

I think anybody can do that on MSN maps. Just make one yourself and make it public and post a link on this forum. I don't even care to know where exactly this person lives, just his user name so I can message him. If he don't feel comfortable meeting me he doesn't have to tell me his address. NP

In 2001 I rode across from Boston - San Francisco to San Diego (and onwards to Mexico etc) and posted a note to the SOHC mailing list (pre-forum/pre-Greenspun days) to see who wanted to meet up along the way. I met a lot of fellow SOHCers this way and remain good friends with many to this day. How else do you meet fellow enthusiasts ;-)? Its not about sitting in front of a computer and having virtual friendships

Okay, I set up a map on Google maps.  Here is the link:

To add your location and username, click on the edit button on the right hand side of the column on the left, next to the "collaborate" link. 

Once you click on edit, 4 symbols will show up on the map.  The one you want to use is the "add a placemark" feature.  Find your city and put the placemark on top of it.  Then put your username in the title and any other info you want in the description.  It is easier to find your city and then put the placemark down. 

Once you are done, click on the save button where you clicked on the edit button and it should save your location.

To get on the list, you need to register with the SOHC/4 Owners Club.  Go to the website and check out the Owners Club section, http://www.sohc4.net/index.php?title=Club.  I know it gets confusing since you registered for the forums and have a number here - that number is just and id the system assigns to keep your activities here straight.  The SOHC/4 Owners Club registration and member number goes back to the early days - every time someone joined our mailing list, John Soliday, the guy who started it all, collected name, address, and bike info and kept it in a member registry.  Back before the days of evil-doers on the internet, it was a pretty public directory, now, of course, it can't be.

The new member directory was just revived a few months ago, so there are a few things I haven't gotten around to setting up.  One is a Google map with members located on the map by zip code, one is adding the forum names to the registration, and another would be to communicate with members that you located through this directory.

Thanks!  I'll look into converting the member city/state/country info a format that can be imported into this map.  That kind of information isn't specific enough to be a privacy issue especially with no last names.

I had to sign on to google also to do it. NP. Now you go east to Davenport, then north to Eldridge, then about 8 miles east and you are at my grandma house. 93 and still running the farm
