Fellow 650 owner here, just bumping your question.
Have no idea about the Ohms range of coils, mine either work or they get binned and I'm off to the wreckers for another set. ;D
Sorry.............Hush.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Got 3 sets of stocker coils laying around, 3.0 ohm's is pretty near what they measure.

I run 2.2 ohm's on my '79 without incident though..... But then again I run DYNA2000 ignition as well.

....And NO they don't make a DYNA2000 drop in kit for a 650.....
It took lots-o-work!!
...as well as $485 for the DOHC 750 DYNA2000 setup, and $85 for the programming kit...
AND the MASSIVE leap of faith I could get it to work correctly.

YES.

Before I want NUTZ and made the DYNA2000 work, I ran 3.0 DYNATEK coils for a while with stock ignition system with no problems at all.

The only think I didn't like is having to remove the stock coil connectors on the wiring harness to the ones used for the DYNATEK coils... If I didn't have a spare '79 wiring harness, I wouldn't have done it since it would not allow me to go bone stock if I ever wanted to in the future, without re-hacking the wiring harness.

It's simple though, cut off the old connectors, crimp on the new ones, hook up the coils, and go!

I would suggest that if you do go with new coils, go with new wires and spark plug boots as well.
30 year old wires/boots are(IMO) just about just barely able to keep up with the stocker coils, let alone a new fresh set of aftermarket coils.

I have not had the chance to run any other manufacturer of coils.
If you do try something other that DYNA coils(ACCEL comes to mind, i'm sure there are others), please post your results!!
If they work great, good to know.
If they don't go.... even better, can keep others from making the same mistake.
