Helmets, good or bad on the FFM K3?
« on: July 21, 2008, 04:00:35 AM »
OK not quite SOHC stuff but this is most read forum and all the cool intelligent knowledgable people are on here so, serious question: I'm looking at the FFM K3 helmet and I love that it has a lift up full face visor just like my old 1973 helmet (that I can't find anymore).
Does anyone have reservations on using this type of helmet, would it have the same impact resistance as a standard full face?
It's seriously perfect for me, just have this niggling feeling that there could be a safety factor in the flip up visor thing.

I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Have you been able to look at it in person?
Looks like a modular where the chin bar lifts up.
Some are good, some suck.
Have you checked out the symax 2 helmet? It seems pretty good.
A bit pricy but then most of the good modular ones are. I want to get one but I do not have 250 clams!

I have no experience with this type of helmet, but having sustained neck injuries from full face helmets (in a race car collision) I'd say your neck will snap before the helmet clamshell in a frontal impact situation.

What I look for now is the lightest helmet that doesn't strain my neck on bumpy roads. Good luck, and post any feedbak on the helmet.

Kinda find it hard to belive that the HJC Symax 2 is only $250...especially considering my HJC FS10 was $320..but then again that is in canadian prices for mine...so it could be only that down there...

It is a little more than 250, about 260 or so online. I found it at a dealer for about 280.

The FFM K3 is $200 kiwi which is probably about $150 US so a pretty good buy.
The beauty of these helmets is the ability to position your glasses weather prescription or sun.
I think I'll relist the FFM I just bought, take the loss of a few $$ on the chin and lash out for the K3.

as long as it's DOT and snell approved it's a good helmet
i find that fit is more important after that
i had a full wrap where the face lifted up and i like it alot
but the safest helmet is the standard full wrap
good luck in your choice
ps
helmet venilation is pretty important too
