The Dark Knight
« on: July 20, 2008, 12:32:28 AM »
One word sums it all up:  Incredible.

Heath Ledger's interpretation of the Joker was simply phenomenal, and he totally stole the show.  His performance alone is worth the price of admission.  I found myself laughing along with the audience at the unspeakable things that his character said and did, simply because his punchlines were delivered perfectly.  Jack Nicholson was good as a surrealist Joker, but Heath Ledger takes the cake in director Nolan's dark view of the world of Batman.  He was smart, funny, and terrifying all at the same time.  And hardly any blood and gore considering the acts of violence committed.

It's ten times better than Batman Begins.  An action hero crime drama that proves comic book movies can be smart, entertaining and gritty all at the same time.

And not to spoil the show, but the Joker isn't the only villain in town  ;)  That bit of twist simply blew me away...  Completely unexpected.

Just saw this in IMAX tonight...and it's completely brilliant. Every theatre around me is still sold out for a reason: because the movie is wonderfully epic. The Joker, Harvey Dent, the balancing of hope and evil, the unsettling tension that oozes through every scene, regardless of who's in it...Nolan shouldn't bother with a sequel (since trilogies are all the rage these days  ::)) because there's no way in hell he'll top this.

The soundtrack is excellent as well, I'm a huge fan of Hans Zimmer.

Forget all of the batman movies before Batman Begins.   They are all sad jokes compared to the new incarnation.

I was worried that with Heath dead and all the hype about it, that the movie wouldn't live up to it...  Damn was I wrong!  They did not hype him enough.  He was the best villain I have ever seen in any movie ever. Really a great flick and one of the best movies I have ever seen.

BY far one of my favorite movies of all time. Batman was always considered the Dark Knight in the Detective Comics in the 30's. It's was only till the 60's where they turned it into some hippy fad. IN the movie he is protrayed exactly how he should be; Never knowing if he is a good guy or not, whether or not he is there to help or harm the city of Gotham. Christopher Nolan did a supreme job, collaborating how he became batman ( His suit, his car, why he is the way he is, fighting style etc ) to how he now becomes the "Dark" villian/hero in the second one.

Also Christian Bale is a great Batman. Far too many times when seeing a movie you see the ACTOR, not the person they are protraying.. For instance every time I see a denzel washington fubar of a movie, I see Denzel, not the character. Every movie I've seen Christain Bale in, he completely melts and molds into the character i.e. The Machinist, American Psycho, The Prestige, 3:10 to Yuma, Equilibrium, Reign of fire.. The list goes on and on..

You can hale Heath as an incredible Joker, That of which he incredibly was. But the duo of the two, created an everlasting impression on that particular genre of movie, for a while to come.

JAG definitely gives it two thumbs up :D
Cafe Racing is mainly a matter of taste. It is an atavistic mentality, a peculiar mix of low style, high speed, pure dumbness, and overweening commitment to the Cafe Life and all its dangerous pleasures. I am a Cafe Racer myself, on some days - and it is one of my finest addictions. ~H. S. Thompson~

Two thumbs up.  Liked the joker, especially like all the clowns weaving around him like hallucinations. Loved the grim adultness of the setting.

Did anybody else wish Bale could have laid off the smokers-lung monotone voice every now and then?

From what i read...the details around Ledgers passing hyped up the movie further...but its been said from what i have read that each person who has played the Joker seems to have issues dealing with life after that...Ledger is just the first one who may have ended his after it...

Very much so.  It wasn't as bad as Batman Begins, where his face couldn't move because of the mask, but I still don't know why Batman talks like he's making a prank phone call.

It was the only thing about the movie I'd change, really.
