Well 17 years of child support payments have finally come to a close. Never missed a payment ...nor begrudged the payments for my son.....acknowledged and lived up to my responsibilities.

(I will withhold my comments about my ex-spouse)

But now I will see a full paycheck for the first time in 17 years..............LOOKOUT EBAY, HERE I COME.

All for taking care of my son and giving him the best of everything(love that kid!)......its the ex who uses the money for a new luxury car every 2-3 years and a vacation lake house...all the while I struggle for the basics Gotta love the system...LOL!!

When I hear about stuff like that it makes my blood boil....where's the justice in this stupid system, where it seems like it's the guy that always gets screwed, and she's living the life.  Wouldn't it be great if the caretaker was required to PROVE that the money is used for essentials...not like what you described?  There's got to be some accountability.  Damn!
I've never gone through a divorce or child support problems, but I can clearly see problems here!

When we first split....I gave her a token donation of $150....first of many non registered, non deductible payments that I made untill the bloodsuckers (lawyers) figured out how much I was to pay. She was insulted and said she couldn't even buy a half decent blouse for $150.

Needless to say.....we don't talk much.....and she never remarried......I wonder why?

I was given the advice that when I sent money to my kids for anything, (gifts, school clothes, anything at all) to send it through the 'friend of the court' This all counted towards my support and built me a credit. So I set it up so my last check to send was only 1$, with a lovely little note on it. Ex didn't know that. So when she got the check for $1 and the last 3 payments didn't show up she started #$%*in a fit and tried to get the court afterme. They informed her I was complete. boy was she pissed and nothing she could do about it.

I agree, #$%*ing system sucks big time for us guys. Got to take advantage of it as best we can.

Wow, lrutt, is that true?  When I spend extra money on the kids, I can apply it towards my child support?  Holy cow!!!  Do you have to provide receipts to the court or something?  What if you have the automatic deduction/deposit system setup through the state?  I've spent many thousands on "extra" stuff for my kids, not knowing that it could be applied against my child support.

In Nebraska, you send payments through the court system, called 'friend of the court'. So all my regular payments went that way. BTW I used to make them with a credit card so I earned flight miles at least. Anyhow, if I needed or wanted to send the kids money for xmas, bday, any occasion or need I would send it to the court and notify the ex and kids it was coming that way. Worked well for a long time and built up a nice credit. Like so many others, my regular payments never seemed to find their way to the kids needs but ended up benefiting my ex whom I affectionately called '#$%* dog'.

So if you have auto deduction, you might consider changing if they take a credit card and get a card that pays off in miles. good for a lot of free plane tickets. Also, check with them on sending any extra in to them as well, they track it all and you should be able to log online and check your balance, I did to make sure I was getting credit. The ex never knew about that. Just as long as she got her regular allotment every month she was none the wiser.

My youngest is in his third year of Grad school...

He needs me to come and put in a tile backsplash for him this weekend.

My daughter gets married next April, (you can guess how many motorcycles I could own for the cost of this afternoon). she wrecked three cars in 5 months, we still pay her insurance...

Oldest son spent four years at college, wound up drummer in rock band...Needs me to come build built in desk and storage in 105 year old home he and hippy wife bought.


It's good to be needed.

COngradulations! and that just a reminder that Cheech and Chong said it best with "things are tuff all over" I have a wife that is on her second marriage(with me ), well to keep it short she was in the middle of her divorce( that lasted 2 yrs) when i came around, she was too niaeve and got 350.00 a month for two kids.  The ex ended up in jail after numerous thefts, runnin from cops, and evading police ends up in jail and here i am footing his bill for the last five years. He is just now getting back out and is in a halfway house, that is also part of the reason why my bike still sits in the basement for 8yrs now un-lisenced and titled;I say its part of the reason because she has not been back to work since we got together 7 years ago and its because I said we can't afford day care for 4 kids on my salery and I would rather haer her raise them like my mom did instead of a stranger with all the crap that goes on nowa days. I also have to praise all the men who do pay their support regardless of what the ignorant ex does with it, it is the first thing i would make sure and do if I got separated, her ex always said he loved their kids but never could find the time love them enough to even pay support, just like I grew up going thru with my father.

I am trying really hard not to vent on this thread about how unfair and destructive the whole divorce/child-support industry is.  I have written at least three lengthy rants on this subject and then just deleted them. 

I'm considering writing to my state assemblymen and local congressmen to lobby for caps on alimony and child-support awards.

On this, I feel the same as the rest of you. Yes it is a responsibility that has to be met BUT there needs to be a better system. Something like a debit card that the mother MUST show receipts for. A card that can only be used for certain things. Problem is, some women will still abuse it.

I also feel that in many cases, a man has to pay TOO much. I mean I sure as hell did not cost my parents 500 bucks a month! Some states are absolutely horrible about what they rape out of a guys ass sideways!

Kudos to all who stick to their word! Cause I know that in all the bull at least my step kids later on will love me and respect me for what i fought for, like the way I feel for my step dad and all the work he did.
