Yo,

I have the bike building "itch" again, and with winter not too far off I think I want to build another scoot. The question is, what do I build, what style, etc... ?

The CB450 was a blast to build, but is really too small for me to actually enjoy. Dont get me wrong, the 450 is a riot to blast stoplight to stoplight, but for me it is just too small. So I am thinking I might build another CB750 with dual fat 16'' wheels (ala Exile style). Or I do a full fiberglass'ed fairing bike with modern wheels/brakes/front-end/xtended swing-arm/etc. Do I build a bobber ina hardtail frame (this would have to be done with a twin rather than a 4).

Any input ?

Really glad to see ya back Proteal

I am fond of the "all business" 750's. Stripped down with minimal body work and fly screen and suspension,engine highlighted by removing anything that obstructs view of them. We don't have a lot of straight roads in CA so not a big fan of lowering the bike and losing clearance, but it does "look" pretty wicked and if your roads resemble a drag strip then go for it.

Your bikes certainly end up with a nice "flavor" to'em so let's get the opinions over with soon and get ya to wrenchin' in the garage, pronto!

Thanks for the kind words on my past bikes.
The CB750 had a few different looks, but I ended up going too far with it and losin interest.
The CB450 is a wicked little bike in it's own rite, but needs to find a new home.
I was actually thinking about buying a 1200 Sporty (yes, a HD) and giving it the ProTeal treatment, but we shall see what I come up with.

Still need someone to take the 450 off my hands before I do anything...

I would go for a CB750 build

Although I live not far from you and I've been having a heck of a time finding one, been looking for months on craigslist and locally. *You'll probably have better luck then me though*

For style maybe a street performance look? Spoked rear disc brakes, modernized front end (I think someone here did a build where he put a R6 front end in with hardly any hang-ups) CR carbs, low profile seat, or those old italian cafe seats (I think they're NOS, and full leather or vinyl) new shocks, steering dampers, etc.

Good luck on finding a new bike, I totally understand the size thing on the smaller CB's my CB350F looks like a toy next to harley's, etc. keep us posted 2.

The 550/4's are a pretty nice template to start on. I like the looks of the F's and the '77 550F is already pretty clean looking in its stock form. Can be bored up and cam'd for some really nice power. No oil reservoir makes for much cleaner options in regards to keeping the emphasis on whatever comes off your brush

Ever think of doing a "Street Tracker" mix up? They also use primarily 2 cylinder bikes, but 4 cylinder ones can be done as well.

If I did bobber I would have to cross it with another style although I like the style, there are just 2 many bobbers/choppers out there right now (getting that way with cafe's 2?) IMO

Weren't you looking to make an art piece out of a cb125 and bolting it to your floor or something?, what ever happened with that?

Yeah, they are both getting done to death.

Why not try something new? What would an Exile cafe' racer look like?
Ultra clean bars w/ internal throttle...
Mono-shock....
Use the original wheels off of a Fatboy (everyone throws them away, anyway)...
What about a 60-40 linked braking system operated by the foot pedal?

Just be sure not to re-invent the Buell

That project is still going on. I allocated a 1969 CB160 for the "apartment bike" project. It is going to get cafe'ed and bolted to my fireplace for an "art piece". This new bike is something I actually want to ride...

I have seen really radical BMW /2. Total custom bad-ass if you're into that kind of thing. People are now up-grading the rear ends, putting later bigger engines in there, adding later front wheel that include front disk brakes. (see picture) more info at the Yahoo Group slash2conversions.

Ever do a Guzzi? The Tonti framed T3's and G5's are a whole other experience. Like riding a train on tracks through turns. V-Twin poop with shaft drive.

How about an SR500. I would LOVE one myself, but I can't kick anymore. Lots of aftermaket stuff for them, and they can be had fairly cheap.

I def. like the way older BMW's look when "chopped".
Never been a fan of the older Guzzi's. I am either going to go with a Sporty or do another CB750 (at this point). But anyone who knows me just how fast I can change my mind when it comes to something like this...

IMHO, a bit of new tech might be some fuel injection. There was a thread about doing a SOHC 750 with FI sometime back. Not a big fan of fiberglass though.
