I might have one you could have for $5 shipped - I bought it for my CB500K but never used it.  Brand new in the Honda bag.  I just need to see if it fits my CB550F.  If it does, I'll keep it.

Hi guys. Are we talking about the rubber ring channel that fits over the plates in the guts of the fuel cap, and provides a seal for the cap? If so, can anybody tell me how the hell I can fit such a seal to a cap that has the plates riveted onto the cap, and not screwed on? There is just not enough room to fit the damned thing. The screw-on units are a piece of p!ss to fit once the plates are screwed off. But those fixed ones are sh!t. H-E-L-P ! ! !

FWIW, i struggled a while trying to seat one of those PITA gaskets on one of my tanks "properly", and said FIFN (F-it For Now), and just slipped it on top of those plates and snapped the cap shut.  I haven't touched it since, no problems.  It certainly seals better than the cracked one it replaced.  It hasn't popped out upon opening the cap.   If anything, it's tighter and better-sealed this way.  I know, humility.  Don't want to claim to have improved a Honda over factory spec.  But you figure in some wear of the clip/clasp/latch, and it makes some sense, dudnit?  .....   :)

yeah, except in my case it's the cutie selling bikes!  My local shop has a pristine Hawk GT 647 showing.  Next to my 550F, this is one of my favourite all-time bike designs (and the GB500).  They've been turning down offers of up to CAD$7,500 for it  :o

If you want my new in the bag gasket, it's yours for $5 shipped.  I ordered the correct one for my 550F this afternoon.

I replaced mine on a 71' 500, and the whole mechanism popped out of the chrome shell on a big diamond shaped spring plate...

My 75 550 has the same thing.  The mechanism is held into the cap by the tension of the spring plate.  To remove it just use a small screwdriver to pry the plate a little on each flat at a time and eventually it will pop out.  It may take a few minutes to carefully pry it out, but it makes it simple to replace the gasket.  Then just push it back into the cap.  Very simple.
