New in Oklahoma
« on: July 22, 2008, 10:57:28 PM »
Noob in Oklahoma.  Just bought my 1st cycle.  A '73 CB350F.  Looking forward to learning as much as I can from you guys!

A bit about my bike,

The old girl is running, but is evidently hard to start, and the right exhaust is wet with oil.  Appears to be comming from the #3, but compression is good all the way around, and #3 is firing.

I havnt picked up the bike yet, but will have it after the 3rd.  Im figuring it needs a ring job, but i know that you guys can probably come up with a few more things to heads up on that could cause this.

I figure the hard to start part comes from the fact that the Previous owner replaced the carbs with another set of rebuilt carbs.  I will assume they're the right type for now as the bike is running.  Im willing to bet that the mixture is probably wrong, jetting may be off, and they're probably not synced up.

Then again, I know absolutely nothing about what im talking about  ;D

Welcome to the club  8)

The 350F's a fun bike and yours looks really clean.

Hard starting can be caused by a number of things so since you just got the bike, I would suggest a good tune up (points, condensors, clean the carbs really really well, new plugs etc.) and then see how it starts.

The oil leak can be caused by a number of parts like the cam cover, valve covers, tacho seal etc. and not always the head gasket. Although, these bikes do leak there from time to time  ;D
