« on: September 04, 2005, 02:51:55 AM »
hi all
on the continuing clean of the old girl came across a little problem with the seat pan its all originall honda but the front third is rotten and the side skirts gone in one part my thoughts are to repair the side skirt with a strip of steel held on with arraldite and pop rivits (metal to thin to weld) but the middle bit i thought just encase it in fibre glass and fit a steel plate on the top will this work dont want to clean it up to much as all the middle would disapear only the paint holding it at the moment i know i can get a new one but would prefer to repair what i have the foam and cover are in good nick the old girls a 77 cb550k3 uk spec

thanks as always

You could always strip the cover/foam,etc... off of the seat and make a fiber glass mold of the entire seat.  Pop it out of the mold and add a few more layers of glass/resin to it then mount the stock hinge and lock to it.  Just an idea.

thanks mick and chris
problem is i am well over18 stone (over 255 lbs) so it has to be robust any way i have wire brushed it its not as bad as i thought looks bad but a strip of steel all the round the outside should set it up ok if not i shall hunt for a better seat pan
i had thought of making a fibre glass one but its only the front quarter i think the foam must have got wet at some time and thats where the rust started worst part of the strip was getting the old glue off what some one had stuck the cover down with but petrol sorted that

merv  thanks for the advice and encouragement   :) :)
