'77 550F Passenger Seat Strap Hardware
« on: July 22, 2008, 10:25:50 PM »
Does anyone know where I can get a new set of passenger seat strap brackets and screws that bolt the strap to sides of seat?  I've lost the chrome on mine and need a new set.  I could have them rechromed but I think it will be cheaper to buy a new set.  I didn't see them listed in the Honda parts fiche (only as part of the entire seat assembly).

I would have thought a company who specialise in seat restoration could help with the seat strap brackets. They are however available in the U.K. from R K Leighton ( www.rk-leighton.co.uk ) I bought some for a 400f, £8 the pair (about 16$), not sure if they have the screws but I imagine they have. For the screws I used a pair of bright zinc plated cross head headed ones, the same type as used on the engine case. The original screws have a shoulder that locates in the seat frame so a turned down a piece of tube to fit over the screw and into the seat frame. I just stuck the tube on the screw with some epoxy adhesive. Whilst they are not chrome they are bright enough.

For my 550, I got one of these off ebay...

Probably wouldn't hurt to replace the whole strap too while you're at it.

I posted a question to the outfit first, detailing the length of strap I required. They were most helpful and I received it promptly (for being in NZ that is). It required cutting to the exact length I needed but that was not difficult and it looks great!  :)

Sorry, no pics, bike is stored away for the winter.

Cheers, Phil

Thanks, I'll look in to that.  Unfortunately, I already had the strap made by a local upholstery shop for about 15 bucks.  I guess it wouldn't hurt to have a spare laying around.
