It in almost all cases will lean things out some. How much is hard to say, every bike seems different on that.

You're not going to see a power increase.  The main benefit to a stock replacement K&N filter, or any other reusable filter is never having to buy another filter again.  Just clean, re-oil, and put it back in.

I *think* in many (most?) cases it won't be different enough to warrant a carb adjustment.  Plug and play.  I like them for the reusability and one less thing to buy each oil change.  As they progressively clog, there would be a subtle change in performance, but not enough that I've ever done anything about it.  I have one on each of my running bikes.

OTOH, this thread might interest you on the TriumphRAT forums: http://www.triumphrat.net/sprint-forum/89273-k-and-n-filters-read-and-decide.html

Almost as good as an oil discussion.  Get out the beer and read.  ;)

Boy 650 bobber you are just full of questions :P I use the K&n original filter shaped version on my 750 for 2 reasons, A: because of re-useability, and 2: because it looks cool with the bottom air box gone and a flat plate installed like a hot rod like below, just kidding I was missing the bottom of my air box, but compared to 140 bones for pods, the factory version K&N is just 40 bones.

Not a K&N fan - too much snake-oil marketing, and too little consideration of engine protection.  For a street bike, hard to beat pleated paper for engine protection.

Well the paper is best but if he planning on doing some engine work, then the paper gets too restrictive.
As for power increase, well, you might get an hp. I suppose if you have to rejet, then you might get a couple. On its own, you will not likely feel the difference.

I created a K&N filter for my CB500 by burning out the paper from a stock filter and JB welding a section of K&N filter media from a Harley filter into the stock filter frame.  It has worked fine with no jet adjustment required.  Plug chops after high speed running look fine.  I did not detect more horses either.

I've run K&N filters on different bikes for years.  Never noticed any power increase, but like always having a clean filter.

This reminds me, I need a new filter. I got an emgo one last time and it has worked fine. Built well but is now 3 years old, I think 4 actually!. More age than miles but should still get the boot I suppose.
