What photo hosting do you guys prefer?
« on: July 24, 2008, 09:21:55 PM »
I've been using imageshack.us, but they now include pop-up ads in the photos you post. What is a good option that doesn't require a membership etc.?

I use flickr.com with no issues.  Photobucket is another good one.

What do you mean by "doesn't require a membership"?  If you're just looking for a good, free image hosting website try Photobucket.  I've been using them for a couple of years now with no issues.  It's also really easy to upload images and post them on various forums.

What I meant was that with imageshack, you don't have to sign up/provide an email address or have a username, its kind of a post it and forget it thing, you don't manage albums with it or anything.

Imageshack doesn't put ads in images you link directly to, of course if they're really big then not all forums appreciate putting gigantic pictures in the message, some do, some don't.

If they aren't accessed for a while you might find that they aren't available anymore, perils of completely anonymous photo hosting.

I've seen a plethora of Photobucket "links" that say the image is unavailable. I've never seen any from imageshack, however. It seems to me from experience that imageshack will keep the pictures indefinitely, while most of the other hosting sites will eventually delete them.

FWIW, my ISP gives me, along with my email account, 25Mb of web space. Generally, when I need to post pictures in forum, I just scale them down, host them in my space, and link them in the forum. That way I'm sure I'm the only one responsible of the picture being there, nobody can take it down without further notice, and if I run out of space -has happened a couple of times- I just delete older ones. Sure enough, some links somewhere will lost the photos, but hey, I did it for free.

Sure enough it is easier for the readers as they just see the pictures without having to click on links and wait for huge images to download.

I use my website, but I did setup a picture hosting site for members here if people want to use it.

Most likely those pictures were deleted by the person who's account they were on, or the account was closed due to inactivity.  I've had many pictures on my Photobucket account for over two years and the only one that was ever removed was a picture of David Hasselhoff that was of "questionable" nature. ;D

That's because the used either moved or deleted it.   I've only had one pic removed by photobucket. I'm not sure what it was so I don't know why, but it was in an album of pics from a car show.

My work computer I can't see photobucket images, but flickr ones I can...so i am starting to prefer flickr. Apparently Photobucket is flagged as a "streaming audio/video hosting site" so it's blocked by our system.
