petcock flow / specs
« on: July 25, 2008, 01:30:30 AM »
Hello and thanks for looking in.

I tried to get some details on the forums but could really find the answer I was looking for,  this might be a quick question, I hope.  If I over looked it, my mistake.

What I was wondering was,  how fast or slow should the standard flow speed be of the fuel coming out of the Petcock into the lines ,off a 73 CB500.  I was wondering if I am not getting the correct / best out of the one I have on now.

Is there a way to calculate this if you pull the tank and drip over a pan/can?  Any suggestions would be great.

thanks in advance,

If your gas mileage sucks, it will get 30 miles per gallon at 60 mph.  That would be 1/2 gallon of gas in 1 Hour, 1 quart of gas in 1/2 hour, 1 pint of gas in 15 minutes, 1 cup (8 Fluid oz.) of gas in 7.5 minutes.

Point your gas hose into a cup, turn on the petcock, and time how fast it fills.

If it takes less than 7.5 minutes to fill, then it should be ok.
