Riding the CanAm SPYDER
« on: July 26, 2008, 08:19:26 AM »
Finally got to ride one.. WHOOO--HOOOooo.

Suprisingly, it felt a lot like my 836,  till the upper rpms, then it had less pull.

Very different to ride, have to be a bit careful & remember to steer like a car.... cant ride side by side, and you wont be sneaking this thru a gate to park in a backyard out of sight..

Dont think you would get much "alone" time if you stop at a c-store or gas station..

Sure is a blast though, ride it if you get a chance.. ;D

Glad someone has had the opportunity to take one for a spin. ::) ;)  Seriously, that's cool that you got a chance to take one out. I'll bet itwould take some getting use to. Sure would hate to get used to one and then try to ride the motorcycle like you would ride it. :D That could be an accident waiting to happen. :D If I ever get the chance, I'd like to take one for a spin, but I doubt that I ever will get the chance.

When I was a kid, I learned to ride on an old beat up dirtbike.  A friend asked if I would like to try his three wheeler atv.  We were on the street and I took off on it and couldn't bring myself to turn the handlebars without leaning.  And since it wasn't gonna lean, I wasn't gonna be able to steer it.  I ended up running into a parked car :)

You may get a chance..

I knew last year they were only to be sold in 4 provinces and 6 states.. talked to the rep about that and he said they are working on it (think there is now more).

The main glitch is that they dont always fit in current classifications, that is in some areas it may be neither bike or car..!

Our local dealer was in the first 10 in Canada to get them, I know a guy got his in Feb. It sounds like about 9,000 or so have been made so far.

     Hey 754.

Wonder how long it will before folks will start building their own? I mean, you know it's gonna happen. It's only a matter of time. You been thinking about it? I'll bet that, once you get the hang of riding one, you could cut a pretty good rug on one. 8) ;)

Go to Sturgis next month. I'd bet they'll have demo rides. There's at least 2 here in Colorado Springs.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

I'd also be interested to ride the Piaggio MP3 i think it is? It's a similar setup but it leans...or even better the BMW Carver(sp?)

The Piaggio MP3 is nothing more than a 3-wheeler scooter. It is intended for the non-motorcyclist who are looking for the convenience of a scooter for commuting, but are afraid of bikes. The twoo wheels upfront give less chances of losing traction, but the scooter steers as any bike would. One could feature is that in traffic lights you can "lock" it so it stands without you having to put a foot down.

It was a conversation piece when it was launched, but now it is just another scooter. It happened with the BMW C1 -a roofed scooter- and it happened with the MP3. I would probably buy one if I were into scooters, depending on the price tag.
