I'm a bit preoccupied with 550 tear down I'm my garage but my next goal is to pull off the wheels and paint them black. I also would like to finish my tank with knee dents. Here is my garage as it sits. A pic of my future tank and what i did to my gauages to clean them up. Blue is neutral, white is the blinker and red is oil. I need to get the 550 running so i can pull the 750 apart, rebuild the motor, powder coat the frame and i think i can call it done. Yeah Right.

Those gauges look sooo nice. Really dig the T Bird too; did a tranny on one... thing weighed, no exaggeration, a million  pounds!

Love the knee dents.  I've been thinking of doing the same with my 78F in exactly that same spot where the tank narrows a bit in back.  I like that you went for subtle.  Nice work.

Nice lookin' build.  How about a pic of the bottom of the seat?  I've been trying to decide on a direction to go with mine and yours turned out really clean.  I assume you still have the latch so you can flip open.  I'm trying to decide between what you did, a whole new bump stop seat, or making a cowl to fit over my passenger seat.

FFJ-

Maybe I missed it, but what is your exhaust setup?  It seems that you changed at least the muffler if not the headers as well at aome point.  I am looking for a solution for my ratted out 750 F as I bring it back to the cafe side of existence.

just read through your entire build. totally impressed  ;D

love what you did with the seat, i hope mine's still usable when i'm done...great color choice, can't go wrong with red/blk

interested to hear about your exhaust as well. are you running without baffle? just looks like tips. i think the cops would be after me if i did that here (but i'm still itchin to do it anyways)

right now im running straight headers. very loud! I had a tip on it from kragen and that toned it down a bit, but it fell off somewhere. im going to chop down my old megaphone exhaust and build a baffle. Straight pipes is cool but i think it will perform a little better with some back pressure

man those knee dents turned out pretty nice! i was expecting a crazy bondo patch piece. doesn't look like you used much.

i'm seriously right on your tail with my build man! crazy that we're both neck and neck with progress.. on the same make/model too. i might have to steal your gauge light idea. that's clever! I plan on getting rid of my stock tach and speedo and going for a big tach, small speedo setup with the lights offset to the side.

I like it. I've been thinking about a similar design with my bike.

Starting to do a little work on this bike again. Got a mac exhaust to put on, rebuilding some carbs, porting a head and pwdercoating some wheels. But i screwed up. The pwdercoater did the wheel while the bearings were still in. I thought it was a good idea because it would keep the inside from getting powder coated. What it did was lock the bearing retaining ring on there now i have to scrape away the PC to remove the bearing ring.

The guy charged me $35 to PC 1 comstar and $10 a hoop for my 550 rims. I think it was money well spent.

I hate my comstars in silver, much better in black. Make friends with a powdercoater. Works wonders. Had everything on my bike coated for a couple hundred. Great project FF. keep it going!

Well i my bike has been sitting for a while. I have been working on and riding my 550 and the carbs on my 750 were leaking from the bowls. So i got around to replacing all the gaskets and while i was at it i dropped in a set of 77f adjustable needles and moved them up a notch. Slap it all together and it runs.....like crap. so i drop the needle back to stock, worse yet. So now im going to put the stock 78f needle back in and see what is going on. it bogs real bad past 1/2 throttle. any way i did have a friend port my spare head. He just did a mild job so that when i rebuild i get a little more power.

You've also baked the grease in the wheel bearings. YOu are changing them?

The PC tech should not have proceeded with the bearings in place. Removal and masking of the area would have been British "proper".

I like the work that you've done!  Just got mine recently... Looks like it could've been your twin... After the seat replacement.  Nice custom work!  Very Inspiring!  Where did you get your rearsets?
