CB350F right side exhust smoking?
« on: July 27, 2008, 12:28:41 AM »
Hello, I recently bought a CB350F. The right side exhust smokes a little bit. Burning oil.
What can cause this? I am going to be fixing a head gasket leak this week and would love
to be able to fix the smoke if it is an easy job.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks .

Is it an original exhaust? Or a 4 into 2? If 4>2 that would make it cylinder 3or4. Is it black smoke?

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

It's 2 into one on each side. The smoke is black.

Check the plugs for carbon buildup. Have you cleaned the carbs yet?

If the smoke is black it's not oil.  Oil smoke is bluish color.  If the smoke is black, you're probably running rich and could use to lean out whatever cylinders are smoking.  Pull the plugs and see if they're black.

I pulled the plugs and took a pic:

What do you think is going on with the engine?

yes, number 4 looks like your culprit.
clean the plugs.
make sure you've got spark... although, it doesn't look wet now.
check for smoke.
may need to mess w/ your carb settings... 4 looks rich, 2 and 3 maybe on the lean side, 1 looks decent.
you've got the plugs out, you could just go for new.   ;)

Put in new plugs. How long should I ride before checking them?

I used to get smoke from cylinder 3. We thought it was sticking rings. Treatment with a fuel additive and /or an eletronic ignition seems to have cured it.. not too sure which!
