Almost bit it today...
« on: August 05, 2008, 12:05:24 PM »
There was some sort of wet stripe going down the right side of the lane on a street by my house today.  It goes for about 4 blocks.  I thought it was water from the storms last night, maybe leaking out of a truck bed or something, but it turns out it was some sort of grease/oil.  I was getting close to my street to turn off rolling about 10-15 MPH, and I gently let out the clutch and my rear tire let loose.  I rode out the slide, got out of the greasy spot & tried to ease on the the brakes and started to slide again-the stuff must've got on my rear tire.  I know I wasn't going very fast but no one wants 450 pounds of hot scalding metal on top of them.  I guess if it was on the highway I would've been in some real trouble.

Thanks!  I'm going back out to ride in a few.  I'll be avoiding that street!

There have been reports of some asshat dumping margarine on the off-ramps in the KC area... Apparently he doesn't like motorcycles. Keep your eyes open.

The best part is you ALMOST bit it today. Happy riding.

I hit an oil slick today too. I was accelerating from an intersection and went through a streak of hydrualic oil or transmission fluid and had the rear tire kick out on me. I was going very slowly and just starting to accelerate at the time but it sure made me sit up and notice!

Glad you're okay. I went down once when I ran over a puddle of diesel fuel at a bus stop, fortunately I was getting ready to ride into a golden arches for coffee and was going slow. I was down in a flash though and it made me realize how fast it can happen.

We're getting a lot of gravel and sand washed onto the pavement around here.  Glad for the rains, but...

I took a bit of a wiggle going around the corner near my house today.  That was enough for me, thank you!

Glad you're okay!
