need help with stripped carb screw
« on: May 20, 2011, 02:25:06 PM »
One of the vacuum screws on my 1972 CB750 just stripped. What are my options? I have searched for posts on what other people have done but I'm still looking for some options.

The threads did. When I tightend the screw it just kept spinning and would not tighten up.

Maybe put in a heli-coil?

Z1 sells a quick connect adapter that you can seal in the port with some liquid gasket or something similar. That's what I did and havent had a problem since.

Thanks for the idea. I think I did see this in a old post. So I jumped the gun yesterday and ordered 4 5mm adaptors. After thinking about it at work I should have ordered one 6mm adaptor for a tighter seal/fit. A friend of mine has a tap and die set. So after work I placed another order for the one fitting. Thanks again.

This happened to a Suzuki GS500 I used to own.  I got an oversize screw, drilled and tapped the hole.  IMHO, this is the way to go, don't have to deal with helicoils or any sort of sealant compounds.

Happened to me. I just got a 5mm tap and ran it through once. Worked like a charm.
