Stick me with a fork, pic.
« on: July 28, 2008, 05:56:13 AM »
Well I'm finished for now. I love this bike. This is the vintagehondapaint.com flake sunrise orange kit applied flawlessly with a cbdecal.com (i think) graphics kit. Thanks to all on the forum especially twotired. I've completely rebuilt the carbs and brakes. The motor runs great after the Morgan Carbtune sync and valve adjustment. I really want the factory pipes but they cost a LOT and the freshly painted MAC looks good and sounds great so maybe next year. The painter is looking for more of these to do so central Kentuckians who need paint PM me.

I am having a (I think) rich condition just off idle only when fully warmed up. Which way do I turn the low speed carb screws to lean it out. Thanks again for all the help.

Congrats, beautifull bike. Personally I would change a few things but maybe you don't want to know. In Europe this model tested the fastest and most powerfull of the 550's.

Counterclockwise to lean out, as yours are the good old #069 carbs.

If I am correct about your carbs, you have air screws. So OUT makes the mix leaner. Turn the screws out Just a little.

Thanks, Delta I'm shooting for showroom stock so I don't have much choice for changes. Thanks for the help w/the air screw.

Beautiful...nice job.  I love that color.  You are correct, OEM exhaust would really give it the showroom look, but you have to do what you have to do.

You should be justifiably proud of that fine example.  And, well done on the work you've accomplished.  I have a soft spot for 550s and the F models in particular.

Did you change any of the carb internal settings/jets?

The air screws lean things a bit below 1/4 throttle settings by turning them out; C/CW.

Nicely done!

Hey TT, I was hoping you would see this. I'm the guy who asked you if you could verify needle jet settings w/o getting into the carbs too deeply. Of course you can't and you told me so. Your help with the carb rebuild (and yes the needles were off 1 notch rich and to think I almost didn't get into them) and especially the master cylinder and caliper rebuild was so important to this project that I don't think I could have done it w/out you. I trashed the ill fitting pods and replaced the airbox and filter too. It looks like a new 1975 550F (the cool tank door must be why you like them). Thanks again. Now if I could find a nice 350-4 I might try it again.

Very nice! In my opinion the black pipes look sharp with that incredible orange.
