p.s..  TT do you have any insight on my little issue with the main jets o rings?  What kit is best to get per I have heard different information on the forums.  thanks

past question:
Do I need to get the Honda Carb Gasket kit or full kit with all jets and parts? or can you go to a local hardware or auto parts store?  how about KEYSTER CARB KIT???  some member said they got all 4 for 51.00 - sounds too good?  but in insight would be good.  It wouldn't hurt to put in all new gear, just not sure on the price being too good to be true.

If the metal parts in the carbs are good, why replace them with kits of unknown quality?  They aren't that hard to clean, if they aren't corroded.

I have always used the Honda carb kits which I get for about $17-18 each.  Has all the orings and gaskets for an overhaul and there is little question of them fitting properly.

If you follow the forums, you'll find varying results with Keyster kits, some like them, some don't, because the parts may not meet the same quality control as Honda.  It's cheaper to sell parts if you skip the quality control inspection.  I've yet to hear of an overhaul failure due to the use of Honda gasket kits.  And, I don't like to do the job more than once?

Further, Honda produces parts while they are profitable and has a decent turnover.  Think they will still offer parts when there is little demand?  Something to think about...

Finally, isn't an overhauled set of carbs worth $80?  If money is way tight, then contact Kevin400F, as I think he still sells the main jet orings individually.

Your call...

Thanks again,  I think for now they are good and will see what I can do with Kevin400F on the 4 main o-rings.  But yes I will for sure do an overhaul down the line soon.

Have a great weekend!

Got shot of the caliber split ...pistons are still stuck/Dirty and tried the method used on the fourms- with the break line/mstr hang and a didn't work too well on all 4 and figured I would have a friend take them to his shop and blow them all out...hope he doesn't shot his eye out!  ;D

Over all splittin them wasn't too bad and worth it to clean and to know for furture cleanings.  Also after looking up pixs and trying to ID these calibers - I keep flip flopin on the year/  I am now thinking 89 Suki GSR 750 / Katana ???  The rear and forks / calibers match up from Eye balling this.  Please correct me if you are up to these Suki bikes.  Nothing on the gixxer site on the ID but from what I see it's 89.  I picked up a new set of calibers to play with if the ones I have are beat...only for 36.00 not bad if I am burnt and killer if better than what I am working with.

So caliber 1 split is below:

I'm so glad to see other people put Honda floats in upside down too............ ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

that rubber band looks like fuel that's varnished in a band around the orifices.  almost all the carbs i tear down that are vintage have that problem.

also, i think that some dude on hondatwins.com used to own that bike?

Thanks for the insight and for droppin down the last OG PO...the guy I bought this from was over his head and got rid of it, I assume....but I am down to get her going and showing off her lines and soul...

I could use any insight the last PO might have,  if willing to offer past bike history and medical reports  ;D...will check with him.

I finally got the 2nd Day startups on YOUTUBE and will post tonight.

Cheers and thanks for the insight and dropin in,

Showings are dupes.  The YOUTUBE kinks..

So this is first start up day 2  after cleaning the carbs but with out the Main Jet Orings and not tunned nor jetted.  The upside down Floater was fixed and carbs cleaned and parts set straight.

Here is still 2day start up, turned it over just a few mins to not wreck it....noticed major high rev but this is cause I was being the Mickey Mouse kid and wanted to hear it turn over... Will work on her again soon.  It's going to be better once the o-rings are in the Main Jets and boots all tighten, jetted as best as I can by ear and feel.   It has open pods and unknown issues....SOUNDS LIKE FUN FUN FUN!!! Just don't turn my floats upside down.   :D

Any updates on this?

There are many pros and cons to pod filters, I would start your research there.

Looks great!

Hello Hello my HONDA Folks,

It's been a while since I last posted but I was out hunting BIGFOOT for a while. =)   Well I am back in full swing, and she is ALIVE!!.   I have only put in about 16hours since the last post but was glad to find out my probs and had a nice ride today and will again on SUN.....

I just wanted to post a YOUTUBE of her now after a ride today.   Man she is can pull and has a great sound and no issues so far.  You won't see pods or airfilter on this clip and I will explain in details later and all that has happen to get her from NON Running to KICK A$$ 73CB500 Four with style and grace.

I am glad I found this fine chica and was able to give her life...big head turner.

More to follow and thanks for everyone on this forum......I was out hunting but as always dropping in to gain more know how.  TT is by far the MAN!!! BIG UPS to TooTired.  ( and I know what you mean on the Airbox/still looking for one..but was able to work things out...HOURS of FUN and Fumes!)

Cheers to all and enjoy the Summer rides and don't give up if your wrenching still...

Thanks for looking in......

So yeah...BIGFOOT was holding me up for a while and I lost my in the forest. =)  but back in da garage and happy to be rollin.

Okay so the last time we had issues starting and what not....The PO wasn't the Main PO who did this killer MONO shock set up...that's for SURE!!   I assume the guy picked it up and figured it was easy to work on it, which it is....if you have your head on straight and read the post.  Everything I have uncovered has been done the wrong way or just tweaked out??

First the carbs were taken down and cleaned -one of the floats was upside down.
I couldn't get it going once back together- till one day life came into the chica.  Still with Major Rev issues.   then the BIGFOOT trip happen....

Now back in the 1000 acre forest...I looked at post after post on PODS/JETTING/GAPs/ETC....and worked out a few issues.

So I first got my set of Main Jets in the mail - 95 - 125 to play with.  Nothing seemed to work-per for WOT.   So I went into the Idle / Start up issue....charged up battery/tested coil/connections...noticed plug caps and wires didn't fully connect per PO cut them up-way too short. cleaned them and fixed connections and adjusted the plugs again and cleaned them up.  Then I figured the Timing was off per no juice - And it was and it was even worse -PO Stripped every adjusting screw on the points..I can only assume he gave up at this point..=) so I machine screwed them off and replaced and adjusted the timing and gaps.  after this she started right up..but way high REV.  ...

Not sure if I mentioned this- but throttle cable was broken at carb connection - when replaced - again the PO had the cable connection in the handle grip set with the push instead of the pull...only has one cable..but was on wrong..MAYBE that's why it was broken with the tention he played with? Now the good stuff - I had to readjust the carbs so the slides were all in order and were at bottom for the Idle/startup.  I also went into the Needle adjuster and 4 out of 8 of the 3mm screws on the holding needle were all jacked...SO after drilling my hand and leg / Penetrating oil and alot of F**%$#@ it! I got them out. Good thing cause I wasn't wanting to drop any cash.  But all worked out and I was able to set them. Thank the HONDA GOD!

So now it was easy to start and idle ...still with no pods -per PO didn't give them up nor the airbox? I am in the search for an airbox but will run pods for a while.  I have it jetting now to run as is and it been kicking good..I know it will be needing to be jetted once pods are on but no worries - I have the Practice down. =)

I had a great weekend with two good rides -  Issues now I found are - Clutch needs to be oiled -I had to adjust the cable per it was sticking the first day and alot of lunging was going on when sticking.   I also want to get the forks lubed soon and the chain was a little loose and was clanking on big bumps
. so some more fun in da sun!!

cheers and thanks for looking in- I will keep in touch now that BIGFOOT is done.

Latest:

I had to get a new clutch cable per the old one was sticking.  I went ahead and cleaned out the clutch box and regreased, now it doesn't pop into first with hard lung.

I had to take apart the baffle per it shot out the packing fibers one day into work.  I learned how to take and put back the baffle from this site- big thanks!  easy after I popped the Kerker Nipple tip off...sounds nice now.  But before I ran it with a new baffle packed/megaphone- I pissed off Pasadena for a quick ride in old town.  I will attach the youtube prior ride- sick sound. but way over what I need.

I have taken off my speedometer -which is nice but PO had it cracked- he must have dropped the bike per the signs I see while getting her back on the road.  So till I get it fixed- I am running just the OG 73 Tach now and its fitted in the middle of the bars- nice look and I know when its time to slow down.

She has been on the Azusa Canyon run now and loves to be outdoors every chance we can get...I even pass up my 51 cadi for her lovins.

I will post some new youtube of some current sounds and looks.

Cheers

Hey..

so check it..

Just new added pics on new wires / plugs with a coil chop. the girl is running killer now and cant wait for this weekend ride.  had adjust the wires before but got 4 ft of old school hot rod wire cables and new caps...I needed it.  It wasn't till one day on a ride I got back fire per plug cap popped off and the wire end was hitting the block....AND DONT grab the little F-er while running ....=) -one to add to the list .  so now she is running great.

Enjoy and will add more current sounds and rides / more fixes -

Late
