Wider plug gap for electronic ignition?
« on: September 05, 2005, 10:17:43 AM »
I told someone that I had replaced the old points ignition with an electronic ignition and added new coils and wires. They suggested that I widen the plug gap to take advantage of the better spark capability. Any thoughts on this?

If your new coils have 3 ohm primaries, you can add about .005 inch to the spark plug gap to add some efficiency to the combustion process.  If the new coils are 5 ohm, keep the stock spark gap.
This assumes the wires, plug caps, and voltage to the coils are of optimum condition and strength.
Also, use either resistor caps or resistor plugs but not both.
