Could you replace the 600RR muffler with a carbon fiber aftermarket one? I know CF mufflers are cool enough to touch, right after riding.

My 2cents, get a new seat. A cleanly wrapped seat that doesn't look look like a 2by4 wrapped with vinyl, no offense. Clean that tank up, probably some filler and paint.

I'm not great with metals maybe someone here that has more knowledge can fill you in... no pun intended  :D

Sorry if that sounded brutal, you have a great creative abilities and it's awesome to see something so unique. I just wanted to be upfront because this definitely has some A+ potential.

Thanks for the share. Keep riding, and have fun with it  :)

I too have been thinking about the seat.  I really want a nice, classic-ish two up bench (modified of course), but a nice, sleek solo seat would be awesome too.  Stripped the foam off of the pan I have cut down already and busted out the plasticene.  Below there is an un-modified image with the rough shaping of the clay, and the 2nd is a slightly AI'd version with some haggard digital smoothing.

Strangedaze-

Not sure if you noticed or not, but the tank is obviously not done.  There are even some shots where you can see through the tank (where the hand controls need recessed pockets).  Of course there will be a small amount of filling, and rust removal, and paint... :)

I'd say that AI'd version looks right near perfect.

Well I'm surprised this topic didn't die from abandonment yet.  Sweet!  So my latest build (monoshock conversion) is taking long enough to pretty much guarantee yet another season of no riding (unacceptable) so I put it on hold completely and stepped back into my undertail v2.0.  I had a nasty time finishing up the welding on the zinc plated/painted steel tank, and I've been slowly working on details and reading about fiberglass work so I can wrap it up before june 28th (I go back to the UK and possibly to Israel for some work.  Look out Sam, I might have a chance to play this year! :) ), and I really want to ride it before I leave.  So anyhoo, I was able to figure out a few new things, but just today happened to sit down and play with Adobe Illustrator a bit to figure out how I want it to look.  Hoping this pic posts ok...

Sure thing Sam.  Last time I was your side of the pond I was so rushed.  Started working an hour after landing and caught a redeye return flight half a day after I was done with the work.  This time, it'll be more relaxed and I'll actually get a little down time.

Anyhoo, with the bike, unfortunate news: The hydraulic clutch I got for my conversion has the wrong stroke!!!  That is the only thing I have not been able to rule out :(  Bled the system three times, and even  mounted the plate outboard from its' proper location (to allow viewing) so I could make sure the clutch was indeed moving inwards.  Alas, it was, but not enough to engage/disengage the clutch.  I thought I was confirmed the size on my setup ('85 vf1000r) to be 14mm, per Maksutts' directions, but I guess I was wrong.  Time to go shopping again :\

Still trying to figure out the color scheme too.  Black is always nice, but I thought it would be cool to use one of the stock colors for a '76 750k.  Mine was originally candy antares red (proper name?) so i've got to do some more research on that.  I know I would also love the bacchus olive (?) or the brown that was used (not sure of models/years) as well as that beautiful goldenrod occasionally seen.  Those details can wait though...

Clutch first...

Hey babyfood!
Do you have both master and slave cylinders from VFR? Because I use Kawasaki ZXR900 (?) master (14mm) wich works fine.

Burnboy - pics up in a few minutes.

Maksutt - The master and slave are both from a VF1000R (1985).  Not sure what the deal is.  They were feebay items that were claimed to have working properly, but for all I know perhaps they are in need of a rebuild and will actually work.  Have bled the damn setup numerous time and am fairly confident all air is out of the system.  I have no been able to find any specs on these pieces that state the piston size, so I'm left to wonder if its' correct or not.

Well I'm pretty sure I have eliminated all other factors as to why my hydro clutch isn't working.  I have no reason to believe that my problem isn't simply that the master cylinder isn't moving enough fluid (from a different viewpoint, one could also attribute this to a slave cylinder that has too great of a cross section.)  The setup is from a 1985 vf1000r.  MC and slave are matching from that bike, and for that bike, I'm sure they work great.  But from what I have been able to observe, my bike (1976 cb750k) the inward stroke/thrust against the pressure plate is more than the vf1000r combo can provide.

My options seem to be these:

-revert back to a cable setup.  I know this works, and it will mean one less task to persue, meaning a quicker back-on-the-road time.  Going to do this for sure - already sourced the perch/lever/control (thanks vw dan)

Focusing again on the hydro issue:

-place my setup with different MC and slave
-replace MC only, but with a larger piston/bore (for more fluid movement to the large slave piston)
-replace slave, but with a smaller piston (for more movement from the same size MC piston)

I know things are working with the setup, after yet another bleeding, I can hear things moving underneath the adapter plate I machined, but when I throw the bike into gear and grab a handful of clutch lever, things just do not want to engage/disengage.

To tell you the truth, I'm actually getting anxious for the cable clutch again.  I may have gotten fed up with the broken cable issue that seems to haunt me, but at least it was cut and dry.  I guess it's a good thing I like making stuff work, otherwise I'd be fed up by now :)

I love the fuel tank, reminded me of an old armored tank (ala WW2). I love classic looks, but total customizations have their beauty as well. Hope you get to ride her soon.

Tiny little update... Just picked up one of these:

With tax it was $73 from Batteries plus... a couple more than their website listed, but until I get into the store where I bought, I'm gonna ignore the few dollar discrepency.  Excited to get some of the last bits together.  Giggity.

Yuppers.  Nothing but nice things to say about AGM's.  Dozens of people here are running them with rave reviews almost completely across the board.  Mine will likely go in the the stock batt. box, but I know another spot it will fit (Sshh... it's a secret :) )
