Needle notch position

Where should I position the needle clip for my 71 CB500 carb rebuild. I am using the standard airbox and a Jardine 4-2 exhaust. Should I just set it in the middle to start? The carb that I disassembled had the clip one notch below the center. Is there a 'standard' position from the factory?

yep, start in the middle notch.....then test drive your bike and see what she does...adjust when needed..
there's not really a standard setting due to too many factors, alltitude, exhaust system, air cleaner etc..

If there are five positions start with the middle one, when there are four, start with the 3rd from the top.
