I was going through this set of carbs cleaning and replacing float needles and checking the jets and noticed that the idle jets are pressed into the carb. no way to get them out

I ran a .008 thousandths guitar wire through them to see if they were clogged and there was No resistance at all. I am wondering if they could still be clogged and if there is some way to get them out of the carb body. Anybody have experience with this type of slow jet?

 Use a small vise grip and gently twist as you pull up. They will come right out.

Twisting removes more metal then you want.  Best to avoid making the hole bigger or the jet smaller.  Less risk of them falling out latter.
Pull them straight out, as that is the way they were installed.

It called a swagged fit, or swage fitting.

I had not encountered that style before (I do not like them by the way), so I was worried that they could break off or distort.
I was having trouble getting my engine to start and idle. I had some starter fluid and the engine would respond for a few seconds with starter fluid so I knew this actually was a case of the engine not getting any gas. And sure enough when I got the idle jets out they were clogged.
They were 35's ad I used a .013 steel guitar string to clean them out.
Now I have a good feeling that it should start and idle.

If I am running pods and 4 into 1 exhaust, do you think I will need larger idle jets or drill them out?

How many turns on the pilot air screws? I have them out 1.5 turns now.

My needles have no adjustment. Should I add one brass .030 shim?

BTW my 4 into 2 into 1 exhaust has a muffler.
