Friend in work is using one in his Yamaha R1.
Hasn't had any problems. I haven't seen it so don't know how well it filters compared to stock paper filter?

Don't think any "washable" filter can do as well as pleated paper.  At $3 a pop for the stock filter, I just don't see the benefit being worth the risk.  The "seems to work Okay" testimonials don't hold water because no filter at all will work Okay for quite a while.

How do you clean one and remain "Green", provided you are a normal "Joe" without solvent tank service???   Really hate that selling point :P

As with any other filter device, more flow mean less being filtered. They talk abotu a magnet but magnets do not attract aluminum most of the time. Nor does it attract dirt and sludge.

+1
From what I've read, I understand nothing filters better than pleated paper. Even fuel filters with paper are best.

I used a Scott filter in my CRF450. Supposedly it filters better than paper and the technology is used in F1 cars and aircraft.

Cleaning was a snap, I dropped it in a yogurt cup filled with gas and then stuck a hose in the end and blew to backflush it. Do that twice, it only takes a minute and a few ounces of gas. It comes clean instantly and you can see all the fine particles in the gas when they settle. A CB size filter would need a bigger rinse cup and plug one end to blow it out but same principle.

I'll have to get one for the old Honda. Its not so much a cost thing, its the convenience of not having to go buy filters.

I had an Oberg filter in my race car, it was a desert racer and never had any problems related to oil or filter.

Supposedly it filters better than paper and the technology is used in F1 cars and aircraft.

Tornado air intakes use proven aerodynamic research and have been shown in documented tests to increase mileage by 2 mpg.  Fuel catalysts use proprietary alloying technology and have been shown to increase hp 10% and decrease emissions.

Marketing crap.

Look, they're not bad filters and probably do an Okay job.  Not as good as pleated paper, but probably adequate for nearly all users.  Feel free to use them, but the payback is just not there.  They're an answer to a problem that doesn't really exist for most folks who have ready access to $3 filters that work better.

I am getting the feeling that some hi-volume oil pumps may find paper filters restrictive.

I never wory about aluminum in my oil, just wether it is an increasing amount..

Oberg made a filter that had an indicator that would show when it should be cleaned.. nice..

After some more round about searching, here's their oil filter list:
http://www.scottsperformance.com/products.php?PartType=3&Bike=Honda

Who knows a bike model for the spin on type filters that work on the adapter housings that Terry and others can supply?  I guess Terry does; you out there?  Would be a shame to hide the filter inside the stock cover.  Their billet outer housings for the spin on types look pretty nice. . . .

Boy I wondered if this thread was gonna lite up and burn like a match, ::)  ;D ;D either way one of the first things i learned about mechanics espically good ones is to listen too them, and if they race and tear apart their engines all the time they know what things like using different oil, air filters, oil filters, etc. can and do do to an engine, hell I knew a guy just outside of town here in KC that was building hot rod in line four cars 17 years ago before everyone else caught onto all the fun, man that guy knew his stuff.

When I looked I think it listed 76 and later or 78and later, so it will probably work.

Sounds like a few on here are sugesting that some racers are wearing their engines out on purpose.. ???

I think I will watch what the racers do vs the "dont run it to redline" crowd...

There is a don't run it to redline crowd? All of the power (and fun) hides up top on these bikes.
Why would you not want to use it? Fear of instant engine death?

As for the metal oil filters. I haven't heard a thing about them until now.
I would be convinced if I saw oil analysis done vs. paper on the same bike with the same mileage between service. If it showed that great an improvement, dropping a hundred on one seems like a good investment.
Right now, for me, paper filters are cheap and do the job pretty damn good.
