All that $$$ for an "RC" stamp? Damn :o   I'm pulling a RC motor apart and am like a kid in a candy store. Better not show this to the owner as he may have second thoughts about letting me put it back together :D

Mr. Scondon, Do you know which Rods are in the motor you're working on? Just curious.

In Sept '05, I bought a set off eBay, obviously never used, that say CR750 on the shaft. I'm not so delusional as to think that's an "official" CR750 mark, just someone using it for marketing.

After much discussion, at Satanic Mechanic, we thought they may be RC Rods, one level higher than those just sold on eBay, but obviously not the "Golden Rods". They are thicker in every dimension, and heavier, so obviously not stockers, with the big bolts as well. Though without the "provenance", I got them for $150 for the set. I'll use them in Phaedrus II.

So far engine is still in the frame so can only "peek" at stuff. Definite headwork/cam, Maxi-dwell ignition(WTF!), crazy exhaust clamp set-up, lightened rotor, etc... Hope to yank the lower case off on Friday and see what's hiding in there(also see why kicker is frozen and look for the missing tappet adjuster). Will avoid tearing top-end down beyond the valve cover if I can, definite low miles on the parts I've observed so far.

There's a thought. The ones that just sold had that RC sheet with it. And as any student of the Antique Roadshow knows, condition and provenance rule. I wonder how much of that outrageous price had to do with "I just have to have the old RC rods". Without that proof, what would they have gone for.

But it also goes to the sport itself. It seems to me that restoring or rebuilding SOHCs and CB750s in particular is becoming quite the thing and maybe prices are reflecting it. I would bet there are more CR750 replicas now then there were when it was a relatively current racer, early 70s era. But I would sell my CR750 (possible RC rods) to buy Jay's as well if i thought I could do it $ for $.

I'm waiting for the "Atchinson, Topeka and Santa fe" replica myself.

"Back in the Day" (boy I hate to use words like that) when we built hi compression engines with no electric starters, the kickstarter shaft was known to break (Oh my aching old man's knees!). We would have the shaft shot peened to make it stronger.

There's a tiny crack in the case behind the kicker where something "violent" happened. Engine runs and very little debris in the oil so hoping for something simple like a broken shaft ;) :)

What was this thread about again?? :D :D :D

Those RC rod bolts only torque to 14.5Lbs.......nothing great about that that's for sure. MCRider.....those "CR" aren't very good IMO. I have I set here and there are machining errors etc. Personally I wouldn't use them. If you do use them have a professional measure the big end ID etc etc

Jay made the 5 set minimum Jerry. In fact I think he went over the minimum. Price was better than I expected too. ;D

Gentlemen (and anyone else for that matter),

Congratulations for your effort and support. Together we can make things happen. We need everyone to pull together and have our cumulative voices heard more often!!

I have a set of 6 of those CR750 non CR rods too. Heavy sum#$%*es. ~+10% over stock. I'd prefer stronger AND lighter than stock. A set of 4 NOS went for $765 on EBay 6/3/08 but the guy, Sagione, has been spending BIG money on NOS parts lately.

Thank you. After sizing up all the data from this thread and others, I'm coming to the same conclusion and respect you weighing in on them.

No problem MC. I just could not bear watching a good build fail on suspect parts. ;)

Of course RC stuff is worth more than other stuff, but everyone knows that!

  ;)

Looking to me like these are not the fully reworked rods... no bolts,.. that I can see..

 basic set,
HT & peened.. 3 times stonger than stock and slightly lighter Bushing in small end. recommended for all big motors and strongly suggested for anything over 836cc.

Super hi-per, Same as previous, but fitted with special extra-heavy duty rod bolts 11/32". High tensile automotive bolts are used. Aprox 4 times stronger than standard Recommended  for use in any motor that is used for serious racing..

Those rods look like what I have in my 1080 engine. They are definitely beefer than stock.
