Have I been bamboozled?!
« on: July 29, 2008, 04:42:51 PM »
I was checking ebay for CB350F exhaust since mine are deathly loud and come across a nice NOS pair 4-2 reverse megaphone. I ended up losing that bid, but I did do a google search of the ebay username and found they had a store. So I called and talked to Jason (employee of Competition Cycles in florida) and he's telling me that they have a handful of those old exhaust kits and he would be glad to sell me a set. So I go ahead and buy a set and they just showed up today.

Now I might be wrong but I'm very confused staring at these header pipes while test fitting them on. They have a "bracket/hanger" mount on the actual headers and then there is another bracket/hanger mount on the mufflers. It's easy to see where the rear mount goes (passenger foot peg) but I can't even comprehend where this other one goes thats attached to the headers.

Should I have this bracket/hanger/arm thing sticking off my header?

He said "these are for the the CB350F yep, yep, bolt ons."

Thanks for reading sorry I'm sure thats pretty confusing, I'll upload pics in in a few minutes just thought someone might know without even looking.

Good timing, yep now I do.

So the closest thing I can get it to are the rider foot peg bolt, it's just held up with my hand in the pic for eyeing (it's close) I just don't want to stretch it to the closest bolt and call is a match you know?

Perhaps it was some kind of universal set?  Did the one on the rear foot peg line up?  If so, I'd bolt it up to the cylinder head and forget about it.

Since these aren't a Honda part, there really is no telling.  Honda didn't hang their headers like that on any bike Ive seen.  Maybe this outfit used a bracket of some sort to hang off the frame to relieve stress on the header/collector joint.

I've been watching those systems for a while now. They look ok in the ebay auctions, about the only alternative to the mac 4-1. I'd love to see it when you get it all hooked up.

For what it's worth, I say hack the first bracket off. My 4-2 system only has the bracket on the passenger footpegs and it's still holding on fine.

What's missing is the other hanger of the set thats needed to hang the pipe.  One bracket bolts to the foot peg, and then that one bolts to the bracket mounted on the pipe - universally adjustable.

Finally got it guys, just normal old bike problems I guess. They slipped onto the foot pegs after a bit of big friend muscle :P

This is them all rigged up.

Hi;
I also purchchased from Jason a few months ago. I got the back end, the 4 silencers for the 350 (and plan to fit to my current headers). I have been working thru a reno of this old bike for the period and have finally come to trying to fit the headrer to the silencer . I was very surprised to find that you are struggling with the same issue that has stumpped me. The hangers and how/where to connect.... just doesnt seem to work.
Can you show another pic that gives me an idea how it came together finished for you... I will take a pic and upload to show my dellema...
thanks
J

What sort of money are they asking for these sets?
I presume you get the headers and mufflers as a set.
Did they advertise for any other models like say the 650? ;D
Anyone got a link? ???
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Mine wasn't a set... just 4 silencers that i would connect to the exiasting 4 headers. No hangers came in the kit. Cost was $450 for the 4.

Yeah, I really don't know what to say about the mufflers. Yes I got them to fit, it took me 6 hours of frustration and they are still not how I want them to quite be. Although the chrome and style is cool, it seems like these aren't the bolt on he wants to think they are. Their is lots of bending to do to have them bolt on properly (the headers) but the good thing about metal it takes well to bending and holds shape.

I'll definitely take some pictures for you, your going to need to do a few things to get these to sit properly, I'll do a quick write up with the pics of each trouble area so you can have a easier time.

Jim please show me pictures of the mufflers and or measure them for me, thanks.
