550 Chain (Will a 102 link work?)
« on: September 05, 2005, 07:56:50 PM »
From reading the forum, I have determined that I want a no o ring chain.  Specs call for a 100 link 530 chain.  I found a really good deal on a 102 link chain.  Can I just use a chain breaker and take out the extra two links or will it work fine with them?

Thanks!

Sure no problem at all. On my 500s I always get the 100 link chains cause it`s hard to find 98 link ones.
Chain breaker tool or I just use my bench grinder

DONT fit an "O" ring chain to a 500 or 550 four as it will eat into the crankcase!!!

I want a no o ring chain.

He says he wants a "no O-ring" chain Bryan, so assume he's bought that...

You're right, I bought a 102 link non-o ring standard 530 chain on ebay.  Already got it and broke my link breaker.  I may go ahead any try it with 102 links.  It doesn't look that much bigger.

As long as you have a soft or joining link just grind the heads off the pins on the link you want out---just make sure you get the right one!!!

I'll probably try it next weekend.  I had an extra set of wheels that are a tad bit rusty.  I am going to have them sandblasted and paint them flat black.  I am kinda going for a rat bike look of sorts.  I figured I'd put the new tires on and change the chain then.
