CARB CLEANING
« on: September 29, 2008, 11:48:46 AM »
I am about to pull my carbs all apart for a good cleaning and to make sure all is functioning as it should.  I will order carb kits and replace all gaskets while I am at it, but I have one question:

Will I need to sync my carbs when I am done?  Can I leave certain parts of the carb assembly alone and avoid the need for syncing?

Thanks!

Yeah, you'll need to do a carb sync if you pull it all apart to clean. You should anyway. The bike will love you for it.

If you are going through all the time and expense to rebuild the carbs you will want to get the best performance from them.  The last thing you should do is sync.  If you do not have the meters there is a post in the FAQ about how to bench sync them before you reinstall.  That will get you close and all you need is a set of drill bits.
Be sure to take alot of pics even before you remove them.  You will be surprised at how you can forget where stuff goes.  And everything that comes from carb #1 goes back into carb #1.  Do not mix and match parts that you are putting back in.  Use containers marked carb #1, #2, etc.  Good luck with it...

I just got my carbs that I bought off eBay and will be doing the same... Total overhaul. Good luck!

Maybe my question will help you as well... Does anyone sell an overhaul (total) gasket set for these carbs? (1976 CB550F... Carbs 087A carbs) I mean, one that will include the little rubber fuel hoses that connect the carbs on the rail, and the o-rings that fit on the fuel inlet "T's" etc etc.?? I have the carb rebuild kits from Keyster for the actual carbs to change them over to the 022A set up but was thinking the other stuff could use replacing too.

According to the honda shop, and the diagrams at various online oem part dealers, the gaskets for the tees come with the honda carb kits.
