Hi to all, used to be a member and I'm back after a long absence. Current project is a '77 CB400F that was in storage for 13 years when I bought it in '97. In '98 I mothballed it in the back of my garage and I've started on it once again.
Current details about the bike:
13K original miles.
Non OEM high bars and stock '77 footpegs tossed and replaced with low bars and rearsets from '75 model year.
Rusted out original muffler replaced with Vance & Hines canister.
Athsma causing airbox & filter removed and replaced with K&N pod filters.
Properly jetted using mini drill bits on the original jets to open them up, floats adjusted & carbs synched.
Points replaced with Dyna III electronic unit.
Original coils replaced with Dyna 3 ohm coils.
One tooth smaller front sprocket installed.
Clutch replaced with Barnett kit, used springs from CB900F. No more clutch slippage.
My next step is installing forks from a 1981 CB750F. I went to Kevin from TTR400
http://www.ttr400.com/ for a custom triple tree to fit 35mm forks, keeping the 60mm offset from the 400F but using the 180mm spacing from the 750F so I can mount dual discs. Triple has flat top for use with clip-ons but it also has tabs for clock mounts.
I'm on a budget so I've been acquiring parts slowly. I have the steering stem bearing kit, Vortex clip-ons, fender and a front hub from a SOHC 750 is on the way. I'm not interested in keeping everything period correct so long as it functions first and foremost, good looks help too.
I'm not using the 750F rotors and calipers since they are huge heavy clunkers. I'm looking for something much smaller and lighter weight that will do the job. If anybody has any suggestions, I'm all ears. I have a lot of flexibility with the 750F forks having 65mm caliper bracket bolthole spacing.
