My weekend....anybody into antique tractors?
« on: July 31, 2008, 08:16:10 PM »
We've always had a few antique tractors around the farm but in the past 10 years my fathers collection has taken off.

He has about 25 or 30 tractors from the 1930's on, almost all International Harvester.

I'm a member of a local club (www.steamshow.ca) which meets every year to put on a "old time power & hobby" show with antique tractors, cars, stationary engines etc... and even a few steam engines still show up.

The show kicks off this Friday... the feature brand is International Harvester this year so I've been busy preparing the old girls for the show.

I spend most of my time during the weekend helping with the tractor pull. Great fun and a lot of work  :D I usually end up as the pull back tractor driver but now and then they let me do some pulling

Here's me a few years back pulling with my 1949 Case.... original paint  ;) poor vid quality though...

Some other pics from last years show:

The latest restoration; 1936 International Industrial (I-12). Restored by the guy on the seat, my Brother.

What are those antique tractor engines called which fire once and spin like 12 times, then fire again and spin 12 more times, etc?

*edit* Holy crap Martino, that thing looks positively dangerous, eh?  ;D

I deffinitely have John Deere Green running through my blood. My grandpa was a farmer and he never did get very modern equipment which meant he used old JD tractors. I've grown up driving his 1952 60 and 1951 M. We are now also in the process of restoring his 1939 B. I still go there about once a summer to help bale hay and it's always fun to see the look on people's faces when you're hauling a load with that little M. Good times.

If any of you live in the Mid-Atlantic states of the US, this is an event to see:

http://www.roughandtumble.org/reunions/2008/2008_promo.asp

I live close to this place and go to this event or the 'Spring Steam Up'.  It really is kind of amazing being surrounded by a hundred or so massive steam engines, industrial engines, and even steam powered excavating equipment.  And the place is like something from the past - one of those 'at your own risk' kind of events where you can freely wander around in the heart of the action and they trust you know enough not to stick your hand into anything moving.  Keep your kids close.

While i`m not into antique tractors as such i do have a soft spot for any old machinery and you cant drag me away from an old steam engine if i see one. The craftsmanship shown in these old engines is just amazing.
Old machinery is worth the time to admire, at least i think so  ;) :D

I do like old tractors.  Tomorrow there is a parade of tractors going to Almelund MN for the festival & one stop is in my front yard.  We also go up to Rolog MN where there are tons of steam tractors.  Cool stuff - I'd love to get one someday myself.

I guess the answer is yes  8)

Sounds like a lot of us have some old iron in the family at some point.

Martino....... that's awesome. Not sure if it would handle some of the greener maples I seem to end up with but those old bailers are all over the place, and cheap in these parts. Doesn't  look like you had to do much to the plunger to make the whole set up work. I'm aweful temped to build one myself now.

So today was day two of the show.... I believe somewhere around 100 tractors pulled between friday and this afternoon. Sled broke and we called er' a day around 3 pm. back at er' tomarrow morning.

I've got a few pics which I'll post when I get the time  ;)

i stay away from the big pieces with lots of knots in em,cause i did pile up a gear box at first, but other then thast,if you can lift the wood,it can split it...

Well, the show's over folks. Was a good weekend had by all. Weather held out and we had a good turn out of visitors  :)

Man I'm tired.........and sun burnt.

Just did a count on the sign up sheets.... 90 tractors registered for the tractor pull.

We ran the pull friday night, and all three days; Saturday, Sunday, & Monday.

I figure somewhere between 250 and 300 pulls over the weekend. Next year were going to have to cut it down to two days  :D

Here's some pics....

My registration trailer

Trailer set up at the grounds

Even put the bike in  ;)

More to come..(not tonite zzzzzzzzzzz) Matt.  ;)
