4 into 1 or 4 into 2?
« on: August 02, 2008, 12:05:23 AM »
Hello Fellas and ladies out there...

I'm a new rider and bought a 78 cb550K as my first bike.  The exhaust is in rough shape so I'm planning to replace it.  I really like the 4 into 2 look, but can't seem to find a manufacture that makes them specifically for my bike.  My second choice is the Mac 4 into 1.

My question is, why, besides me being a complete goon, can't I find any manufacturers out there making 4 into 2 complete systems for my specific bike?  Are there too many cons associated with this set up?

Any tips, or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

As you don't have your country of choice listed it's kinda hard to answer that, if you are in USA then yes I have seen new pipes for bikes.
I'm thinking that the CB650 (not the custom) might also fit your 550.
If your headers are OK or even just need rechroming then you are in business as slapping on a set of after market mufflers will give you a very nice look.
One of our forum writers was just yesterday showing off a new set he got for his CB350F so I'm thinking 550's shouldn't be a problem.

Oh yeah, if on the other hand you live in New Zealand you are screwed. ;D

I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

In Europe Sito and Mecadapo used to make them. Both Italian, but I am not sure if they're still in business.

BTW - I'm in beautiful Vancouver, BC

So you mean to say, As long as my headers are good, just slap on any old muffler or slip on?

Thanks for your input fellas.

I'm almost 100% sure CB350F headers will fit the CB550. If you want some NOS CB350F 4-2 headers I can give you the dealers info. You probably want to confirm that this will work though just incase I'm wrong.

I had the same choice either 4-1 or 4-2 a couple weeks ago, and I'm glad I went with 4-2. They sound great and I feel good about not having the MAC's 4-1 on my bike since it's kind of the norm for the old CBs that aren't 750s.

The other cool thing about the 4-2 headers I'm talking about is they merge into one 1-3/4" outlet, which will allow you a huge array of options for mufflers when or if you ever need to replace.

That info would be great.  Please send me a PM or reply to this thread. BTW-how much did your set up cost?  Looks and sounds pretty good.  I think contrary to what people say about the length, I think it looks good.  maybe a slight upward angle, may add some kick ass appeal.

I'll do my research to see if the 350 headers will fit my 550.  Thanks Strangedaze
