What can cause a Cam to go bad?
« on: July 31, 2008, 05:21:02 AM »
I was looking at a bike yesterday (71' CB500), and he mentioned his buddy had a 79' CB650 for sale as well. The guy with the CB650 called me and we talked. He bought the bike, had a bad cam, and he did get a replacement engine for it, but never put it in.

Im thinking that if a cam goes bad it is just a because something else is not working correctly, right?

Not that it matters if he has another engine, but I would still like know what makes a cam go bad.

Bad oil from infrequent oil changes, or, an oiling problem. I'm not familiar with CB650 to comment further. Either bad oil or lack of oil.

Q: What can cause a Cam to go bad?

A: Peer pressure?

Sorry, I'll shut up now and let people who know anything about 650s speak.

I would add: frequent cold starts, maybe performed the wrong way (high revs before oil is up there).
