Questions/opinions about top end rebuild-1978 cb750
« on: August 01, 2008, 07:47:52 AM »
So, I spoke with my mechanic about putting in the top end gasket set I purchased and the price he quoted me was half an engine rebuild ($600 :o)

So my question is this-I have the motor apart and would like to button it up after I spend this money. What can/should I do top end-wise to make this rebuild worth the money? Any parts that would be good swap, performance-wise or reliability-wise would be helpful.

and thanks for ya'lls help-this is definately the most technically proficient group on this subject that I've found. ;D

G`day kev
The most effective thing you could do would be to read this forum top to bottom, with the amount of knowledge and hands on experience in here you could do it yourself.
Listen to whats being said and take your time, no short-cuts, do it right first time, not third or fourth time.
Theres more knowledge available in here than in any bike shop, and you earn the big "did it myself" grin at the end....

With a 77/78 get the valve guides checked carefully or you are wasting a gasket set
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Sure, check the valve guides but if he has a K bike the guides are no more wear prone than any of the other years.
