am I getting old?
« on: August 03, 2008, 04:51:55 AM »
Seems I don't have the energy to ride in the rain anymore.
Seems I don't like to swerve around deer/cats/dogs/foxes at 3am, doing 65mph on the backroads, should I slow down?

Maybe I am just going through a phase. Junked 4 bikes a few weeks ago, let the KZ1300 go, leaving me w only around 53 rusting junkers and 5 daily riders that sometimes run and all need more work than I have time for (very busy on-line selling parts and being on here).

This sounds like I am feeling sorry for myself, sorry about that. I think having the rainiest July since 1922 along w mostly overcast days is getting me down. Could someone please call God and inform Him I need some sunny days to get back on track? Thanks.
peace,
michel

Arrrgggghh! Went to church in the sunshine, came home in the rain, again!

God didn't speak to me in church, so....

If you think you need to go to church to talk to God, you need a different religion.

Maybe not as much old, but intolerant. When you want to ride, you want to ride.

Its such a better time to fire it up and have your ride at 35mph or 100mph without all the crap thrown at you on the way. The dumb ass on the phone, someones dog that wont stay in the yard, the drunk drivers 40oz smashed on the asphalt in your ridin lane...... etc...

But then again, if it were to happen this way without a care in the world, we would become dead riders not old riders.

Well,
I've been riding for more than 30 years and have reached the point wehre I have nothing to prove vs a vs riding in inclement weather. Just trying to say I'm sick of rain/fog etc. Have seen my life flash before my eyes way too many times due to weather caused obstacles.

Going to church is not necessary to commune w the Almighty, true. Having expericenced many religions I feel the presence of others of like mind in a church/building/area helps one focus. For those of you whom are pagans/vegans/alternative religions I will not apologize. Have seen too many false religions/cults personally and their results to  believe 2000 years of Catholic doctrine is totally flawed like most Liberals would have us believe. I believe and the hell w those whom use any forum to flame me.

Having 3 priests and 2 nuns as immediate relatives makes me defensive I guess. Most people don't realize the time and sacrafice my uncles, aunts and brother have made for the poor of the world. Can you imagine having a job fishing out bodies and burying them every day in Peru for years on end? I just get really pissed off when people diss the catholic church when they are using flauded data.

Whatever,
peace,
michel

I am with you. I have become a fair weather rider. Not a problem for me. I do not believe in suffering.

hey michel...

i'm not one to agree w/ organized religion but i still believe there is a power stronger than me.  catholicism was not for me but i have no bones w/ you sticking to it... good for you!

now, here's a suggestion that really got me out of a rut recently...

i get really intent on riding sometimes... the last two years of college (only ended a year ago) i didn't even own a cage and i live in colorado.  it was the bus or bike and most of the time (even in the weather) it was the bike.  i never got sick of it, but it still became a chore to gear up and yada yada yada.  i enjoyed the rides but it was getting mechanical instead of spiritual.  until recently... a few of us took out on a ride and no one said where to go... so, i lead everyone off into the farmlands in and around boulder county, but still in the flat lands... it was the straightest stretch of road that i've seen since i left kansas in 1998.  we rode 20 miles out... STRAIGHT... and 20 miles back... also straight.  w/out all the stresses of anything but a straight stretch of road... i got to be myself... learning to ride again.  learning to enjoy being on a bike JUST to be on a bike... not to drag a knee, not to blip the throttle, not even to hang w/ the group... just to ride.

so, my suggestion, is to get back to the basics... what really got you here in the first place.  enjoy it, remember how to get there, and go back often.

You aren't the first person affected by a long stint of crappy weather.  Hell, we only get so many summers, who wants to spend one in the rain?  Look at the bright side.  At least it isn't so smoky the mountains can't be seen, like here.

There is a whole philosophy in there.  That one paragraph is the best thing I've read on this forum in a while.

Hey,
Yes, you're getting old, we all are.
You must still enjoy riding, otherwise the crappy weather wouldn't be so bothersome. I get the same way with N.E. winters. My solution is to save up and take a few days to go some place sunny and warm and rent a bike. Hope you can think up a similar alternative, but hopefully it'll be nice where ever you are for August!

Flawed data? Nah, mate. Don't need flawed data to mistrust catholicism. Just went to catholic boarding school in my teens for 4 years. Put me off religion, church, priests and nuns for life.

I don't know Michel.  It's either been in the mid 90's or else raining here lately.  I've stopped going out in the heat because it's too uncomfortable.  As for getting old, well I'm waiting for Sept to find out the answer to "Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when I'm 64?"  It's bound to get better...

Well, if you can remember the rains in the summer of 1922, then...................YOU ARE ALREADY OLD!!!

Getting old must have its up-side....

waking up with a crink in the neck...don't matter, the back hurts more...
forgot where the keys are...don't matter, forgot where the bike, car, house is...
forgot to put on pants...don't matter, less clothing to hose down

What was my point again....
