How much Torque is Sufficient??
« on: August 03, 2008, 09:16:56 PM »
Went to a bike shop today to test a part I made..

Guy there had a bagger with a turbo kit he made.. fits on a stock TwinCam.

Now I am not certain the motor was untouched, but this is what he said it put out..

around 120 hp.. and get this 140 ft lbs of Torque..
 :o :o :o at 3400 rpm..!!
Geez, dya think that will be enough??

torque is great but if you can't hold it all through your hp curve you definetly feel the power loss

Tis a lot easier to modify and change those readings on your bike than on certain other members of the crew...

i hear sportbike riders .. usually get to the other end.. quickest...

If you are going by riding position...then i def am not a sport biker...Sport tourer maybe but not a sport biker by that standard since the VF has an upright position like a CB  ::)

Hey Rider,  My 86 VFR sure feels like a sportbike when I'm on it.  Sure would like to find some risers, but they didn't make helibars until the 90's.  I tell Martha it's a sports tourer, but truth to tell, I think the difference between a crotch rocket sportbike and a sports touring bike is the age of the rider.

They changed a lot when the VFR first came out...thus..the 1st gens like i have have raised bars..unlike the later bikes till the recent gen came out.
