is this the correct carb kit? 81cb650 (picture)
« on: August 05, 2008, 09:46:04 AM »
I was assured by the seller, previous to purchase, that it is the correct kit.
he will not respond now that i am questioning that fact... so far.   only 2nd day now.

green arrows point to stuff that i can match up.
red arrows point to items that i can't find in the carbs or are simply not the right size... or don't seem to be.

i think the last carb kits i used may have had some "extra" or non-specific parts that never got used either.

the most important parts, aside from the incorrect emulsion tube (unless the part in the kit is not the main tube but a different one that i have yet to find), are matching up... correct bowl gasket, float pin and spring, jet, air screw.

what do you guys think?

and you say that because they are not for the cv carbs which we're trying to get kits for, right?

well, its for the DOHC  :-\

my bikes are older and only F models were available for the 400 and 350.  this 650 is a friend's bike.
but in 81 the SOHC AND DOHC were both available.
ebay seller uses the excuse of "you have the F model"... actually, the headstock reads MODEL: CB650   1981
so, i'm going for full refund including shipping because if he knew he was selling for a DOHC then he should've let me know when i specifically asked him if these would fit an 81 cb650 w/ cv carbs.

right?  right.

new question... who's at fault and who owes who?

No ifs ands or buts about it, DOHCs did not come to the 650s till 83.  The 82 nighthawk was still a SOHC.  Basically, from 79 to  1982, the only CB650 models were the CB650, CB650 custom, and the CB650 nighthawk, all of them with SOHCs . . . .Either HE got the year for the kit wrong or the engine size that the kit fit wrong. . .

I believe it would be labeled CB650SC if it was a nighthawk but I am not certain.  I am also pretty certain that the all the SOHCs 650s with CV carbs (including the nighthawk) used essentially the same CV carbs.

Well here's the parts diagrams for the 81 CB650 and for the 82 CB650SC (nighthawk).  You tell me how different they are!  In 81 there was no F model, no nighthawk, only the CB650 and cb650c (custom) and they both used the same carbs (may have had different size main jets and correction jets but the carbs castings were the same)  Bottom line is that the guy made a mistake . . . .Go to www.powersportspro.com and look up all the parts diagrams for the different models of 650 if you like.  Send the seller there too if necessary.
