bike rides great, and is now pretty comfy on longer rides since the suspension overhaul and swapping  the clubmans to superbike bars. My only project left to complete this bike is getting the front brakes to be able to stop this beast a little better... then maybe I could ride it as fast as it wants to go.
The engine has lots of snap, it sticks to the road and handles great, but still stops like a 1970's bike :( the EBC pads and caliper rebuild helped some, but I definitely need some more stopping power to reign it in...

After I get to re-lace the wheels, my next project will be SS braided lines and an EBC rotor and that should do the job (or else I am looking at dual discs or an aftermarket caliper and M/C  :-[ $$$$$  :-[).

thought about it...
I don't want to change forks after all the work I put into them, and I am pretty sure I can't bolt on another stock disc and caliper to the right side (could be wrong on that though). EBC disc is first upgrade on the list w/ SS braided lines and that should do the trick. If not, I revisit the dual disc option I guess.

I have meant to put some pix of the rear brake anchor arm I made, but I am too lazy...
here is a link to the thread w/ the progress there: http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=46885.45

There is a "how to" I did about a week ago on installing aux signal lights that has pix and info on the rear LED flex strip I got from Custom Dynamics you can find here:
http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=46474.0

Which specific light did you get from custom dynamics, I'm interested in using one for my build, but there are so many choices on that website I can't figure out which one you used.

Thanks,

Jake

http://www.customdynamics.com/integrated_led_light_bars.htm
I believe the one I got is 3amber/9red/3amber and clocks in just under 6"
I used their "dual function" little jammie (technical term, sorry) to make the red brake and tail lights, and after the sticky tape failed to stick to the rhino lined tail piece I just broke out the crazy glue.
I also run a Signal Dynamics "Back Up XP" in line with the brake light to make the light flash during braking.
Really bright and visible day and night while still being low key when off.

How did you prep/paint the wheels?
I am pretty sure I did a whole thread on wheel paint and prep, try the search as I am lazy.
Here is the short version that I can remember:

clean em good (steel/brass wool, simple green, toothbrushes, elbow grease)
scotchbrite from coarse to medium
clean em again, and use paint prep spray
apply Self Etching Primer (it's greenish and stinks) I used Duplicolor, 2 rounds of 2 coats with a day to dry between
paint prep spray/dust em off before color coat
2-3 good coats of Duplicolor engine spray paint
give it a day or 2 and check for missed/thin spots, or give it another coat or 2 for kicks
dry dry dry a day or 2
I top coated this all with Duplicolor's special wheel clearcoat and it is tough as nails still...
a few scratches an marks on the nipples from tensioning and trueing the wheel every so often, but otherwise still looking good.

thought about it...
I don't want to change forks after all the work I put into them, and I am pretty sure I can't bolt on another stock disc and caliper to the right side (could be wrong on that though). EBC disc is first upgrade on the list w/ SS braided lines and that should do the trick. If not, I revisit the dual disc option I guess.

snip
snip
I sponsored a thread on this some time back and here's some interesting conclusions. THe total braking force is determined by the master cylinder. It will push so many PSI and that's that. Whether you have 1 disc or 2 will not increase the 1 time stop only power. Having additional components spreads the available PSI out over more pad surface, so you reduce wear, heat, fading, fork flexing, increase symmetry etc.  The respondents to my thread confirmed this with lots of engineering equations which went way over my head.

In reverse, which was the question I had posed, if you have 2 solid discs, why doesn't drilling buku holes in them decrease total braking force? It does not because the MC PSI didn't change. You have less surface area to distribute PSI, so pad wear will increase.  But the MC output was the same and the output doesn't disappear just because you drill holes in the discs. It just concentrates on less surface area.

So back to you (and me for my next project) if you maximize the ability of one rotor, you may have good results. SS lines, good pads, upgrade the rotor, maybe treat it cryogenically. Install a fork brace for the fork flexing issue. If you're running a 4 hour endurance race on a track, you'll melt one rotor into oblivion. 2 are needed, with multi piston calipers. But not for stopping force, for the other issues of endurance.  For occasional hard stopping, one really good disc should be fine.

But the point is, you won't increase absolute stopping power by the dual disc setup, unless you increase the output of the MC.  Messing with MC output has problems of its own with feel, progressivity, etc.

that was a great thread and good info MC.
I have a fork brace en route and when I can spare the $$$ next up is the SS line, and soon after EBC rotor. I have had to bleed my front brake a few times in the last few months, so the stock line has seen better days. I have also ordered a new Banjo bolt w/ brake switch and new washers that I will install untill I can work out the SS line.
Bike goes great
stops fairly
and charges for #$%*.
Hopefully the charging issues will be sorted soon, priority's ya know.

MCRider, your information has enlightened me.

I just asked the question: "why don't holes in the disc decrease stopping power?" Other people on the forum supplied the info. and as mentioned, in much technical depth.

What if it  does not because the MC PSI didn't change. You have less surface area to distribute PSI?

I think that's what I'm saying in esence. The total force doesn't change. Its just concentrated on a smaller area.

The variable is pad wear, which will go up.

the ad thing is wack, but I don't think it is a complete spam post , dude made a valid technical comment.

Back to the point of this thread, my bike :)

She is running like a champ, and is scarily close to "DONE" ie I have run out of things to F with, aside from re-lacing the rear wheel (though if a chunk of $$ mysteriously landed in my hands it would be time for some 17" Akront or Borannis rims front and rear and custom spokes for the front too, so I can run sticky new Pirellis or similar, and be total Street Fighter, but I digress....).
Shame it looks like my new gig of head master of Drewfus Daycare will keep my road time to the minimum until school starts up again in September.

Project NEXT is rebuilding and hot rodding the new to me final revision K8 motor I have with the wiped cam, which should keep me broke and busy in the garage until winter, when it will migrate into this bike, and the current motor gets a massage and I find/build a new roller for it... Maybe chop/bobber, maybe crazy hybrid AHMRA full on racer, maybe who the F knows  ::)

winter is here and it's time to get some grease all up under my nails again.

winter projects:
real braided oil lines (if nobody makes 'em I having them done custom)
re-spoking the back wheel (I am up to 4 broken spokes)
braided front brake line
fab a nice quick release set up for my chopped down fairing
the usual yearly carb tweaking etc

hmmm... I am sure there will be more

thanx MC, I will get w/ the ClassicCycleCity.com crew for my oil lines. Pampadouri is doing brake lines, but doesn't have a 78k line he can duplicate and I wanna keep all my parts within reach right now in case a nice day comes along and I get the itch to ride.

Hey man!  I sent Pampadori my 78K original front brake line a while ago (month or 2??) to replicate....and this is what I got back!
So he should be able to do the K8 now....maybe PM him.
Cheers!
