gas in carb venturi?
« on: August 05, 2008, 02:06:24 PM »
Like mentioned in the title i got gas sitting in the venturi of carbs 3, 4. I keep the petcock shut off when its not sitting. Also when i pull the pod filters off and run the bike and rev the motor it sprays gas from the venturi. Whats causeing this and how do i fix it?

you got leaking intake valves, blowing some of the compression from the engine back into the carbs..
this reversed airflow takes along fuel as it would going into the engine....

or you have to set your valve clearance...maybe its so out of adjustment that it keeps the intake valves open a little...

your telling me that it spray's fuel out of the venturi when its running.....
sitting still it would creep me out if it sprayed fuel back out of the carbs.. ;D ;D

if,lets say,it overflows when sitting with engine off,it should pour out of the overflow hoses at the bottom of the carbs, unless they are plugged...

noting comeing out the bottom. noting pluging them. i even shut off the fuel as i pull on my street or as i pull into a parking lot to lower the fuel levels in the bowls

My old SL175 would do that as well. Never could figure it out. However, I will say that my 650 won't even run without the air filter in place... Maybe the lack of restriction is reaping havoc on the carbs?
