First test drive on the Guzzi!
« on: August 06, 2008, 12:19:04 PM »
I have been working on re-assembling a 1967 Moto Guzzi V700 for a couple of months now and today I rode her for the first time. What a rush! It's rattly, clunky and loud and I love it. ;D I rode 6 miles to the nearest town to fill up with gas and then stopped at a friend's auto shop to show it off. As we were BSing a huge storm rolled in and I headed for home at top speed. I had a few drops hit me as I was skirting the edge of the storm and rolled into my shop 20 seconds before the downpour hit and my driveway turned to a river. All in all, a good first ride. Here are some before and after pics.

If there is something that deserves the term "encouraging" is to see pictures of before&after bike restorations. For the "untrained" eye, those two pictures doesn't tell how many hours of work are there between them. But the sound of a running bike that you have restored yourself is like music to the proud restorer.

Wish I could be that fast. Two months? It took me almost one year to finish my CB350, and working full time...

Yeah, I hate to think of the hours invested so I don't keep track of them. I didn't do the full resto, just re-assembly and made sure all the mechanical was right but it still took many hours. I do love the rush you get from that first test drive. That is what it's all about IMHO. ;D

Hi Aaron.

I got some NOS spares from my former Guzzi,  (v65tt), carb jets , mixture screws, springs choke cable, head gaskets etc.

Do you need the "Dellorto" carb manual?

Cheers,

Jona

Heck yes! The first rule of Guzzi is have spare parts. ;D Just let me know where to send the Paypal to!

She's running good and all the mechanisms are beginning to loosen up nicely. It is kind of difficult to set the carbs though because there are no vacuum ports. I've been toying with the idea of drilling and tapping holes into the aluminum intake manifolds so I can use my carb sticks to synch them.
