Frame tab removal
« on: August 06, 2008, 05:36:37 PM »
Hello Group,

Sorry for the noob question but I'm wondering what is the best tool to use to cut tabs off of the frame.  I'm building a cafe out of my '75 750F and need to clean things up a little.  I've never done this before and I'm a little paranoid that I'll mess something up.  I been lurking around for awhile and have found some great info.  I didn't find much when I searched the topic to I thought I would throw up a post.

TIA for the help!

You'll need to cut off the tabs and then clean up the remnants.  While you can do this with a hacksaw and metal files, it's much more fun to buy a new tool to do both with.

You can either buy an angle grinder or a Dremel.

Personally I would go with a Dremel.  I just bought one and it really rocks for cutting and filing jobs.  I've cut out my steering head races, tabs off the frame, ground down ugly factory welds, and cut up a seat pan with it.

You can't go wrong with a Dremel purchase.

That's what I did for these kind of chores.....
You can't make too much popcorn, but you can definately eat too much popcorn.

plasma cutter... ;D

i use an angle grinder with cutting disc to cut the bulk, then take it down some more with an abrasive disc, and finally clean it up with a file or die grinder with a scotch brite disc.

depends what kinda tools you got
