It's the first time I have seen it old bean.

Looks cool apart from the tank riding a little high at the front.

By the way, It's a Brit tank called the Motorway Tank, can't remember the company that made it though.

I had one on my Yamaha RD 250 in the early 60s.

That 4 into one looks like the same one I had on my old cop bike when I got it, the noise is amazing.....but I'm learning to live with the beautiful low rumble from 4 into twos.

thanks for the info on the tank Sam, new it was from late 60's early 70's
seat will have to get used to my arse Hush, altho I have some high density foam to go on this weekend, used it on my race bike back in the 70's and never felt a thing.

I woke with a bit of a thick head one Sunday, Chris was banging on the door as we had aranged to do some work on his bike.
We got through the work and I couldnt think why I felt so rough as I'd only had 6 pints the night before.
We came into the house and I put the kettle on for a brew and I noticed a bottle and a half of whisky was not where it was the day before, both bottles were in the bin, EMPTY.

well I appear to have sprung a leak on the shifter seal, happy that's the only spot. pods duly arrived and provided hours of fun times finding a way to avoid the choke mechanism, had to make spacers to move the 2 inner pods out of the way. strangely the bike runs better with the added restriction, it seems as tho the vacuum has an effect on the float height........... or I've gone stark raving mad.

Sam, save me some of that whisky, bugger you greedy bastard drunk it.

shifter seal still walking to NZed from Japan.........
accelerator pump leaks at the bowl carb body union, going to use some threebond on that little bugger if only to prove it's the seal, no-one seems to have that size in the south pacific.

that's because my back wheel will be in front of you

well installed the shifter seal and took the bike for a spin, we have a leak still.
found the bike stumbles a bit higher up the rev range so will have to experiment with the jet size. anybody running pods on a 650, I'm going to start at 105 and go from there.

finally got some garage time and drilled my spare set of main jets out to 105, cleaned my petcocks and intank filters. adjusted the float heghts and generally had a good time

POD REPORT ......... 105 has finally got the bike up onto the cam and carrying the front wheel delicately off the ground

need to do some plug chops to check things but I'm in the ballpark

Sounds like the bike is coming along nicely, just in time for the non riding weather ha ha.
I'm having top end speed issues, plenty of take-off and around town oomph but open road and she is struggling and topping out in the 60mph area?
Any ideas?
My partner blames the 91 petrol I filled up with, did seem peppier with 95 in it.

I'm running 91. if your topping out at 60 you've got a major problem. have you tried running and slowly pulling the choke to enrich your mixture, then going without the air filter to lean her out. if either of those don't improve your top end I would question wether your advance is working.

These bikes have an advance mechanism?
I thought it was all pulse generators and sealed print circuits!!

I have been running with the air filter cover off but just put it back on today to see if that was the problem, so its been getting plenty of air.

Edit: hang on I do remember reassembling something similar to an old weights spring advancer, it's behind the pulse generators, damn I better check that out, I'd completely forgotten about such things, thanks Scunny.

Yeah hush, the advancer on almost all the 650's I've had needed to one extent or another the advancer cleaned and lubed..

I saw 2 that were literally frozen solid, giving top speed of somewhere near 70mph.(downhill tucked into the bike good)

Anyhow Scunny, cheers for the heads up, found it all dry and rusty (don't ask I'm embarressed enough already) so removed it from bike and split it into all it's different parts then cleaned and lubed them all.
I'm quite proud of the fact that I didn't need to figure out the timing as I put it all back together in same spot.
Redid the timing chain tension as well while I was in there, ended up with a quiet bike that had much more torque, only got up to 50mph tho cos damn cross wind and rain but def felt better.
