winter is fading and time to get the bike vinned, so now to add the street legal bits. the mirror went fine. ;D..........but losing hair rapidly trying to get the indicators working, should be a walk in the park but my fuddled brain has taken the day off, I might follow it  ;)

You should be sweet for getting it Vinned, heck mine went through with lights and sirens.
Gotta get my partners'400 vinned for the summer, nearly got her out and about yesterday but fate seems to be against us at the moment, hers died from lack of battery and mine gushed gas everywhere ha ha. ;D
Love those rear sets you've made up Scunny, look very professional. :)

Is getting your bike "vinned" mean getting it inspected?

Hush here in the states your bike wouldn't be legal with the "extras"  ;)

yes, vinned is getting it inspected, shouldn't be too much of a problem hopefully. I did a search on it's previous vin and couldn't find any info.

It would get plates here in Wisconsin and in IL, I am pretty sure. However not in Calif I bet.

I put Id instead of It would.. I was on vacation, guess my mind was also. ;)

I don't think the bike as it stands "is strictly legal" but the testing station guys only cared if the lights and brakes worked and if the tires had tread, the Vin guys only cared if it was stolen.
I know a lot of cops and I get the feeling that they see my old girl as either a moving museum piece with sentimental attachments or a rolling deterant to errant drivers!
I guess one day some cop doing his job or just being curious will pull me over and want to know about the lights and sirens but I have mates with the same set up who have been pulled up and won their case over being able to have their bike fully rigged.
Scunny, I had no ID for my bike when I went to Vin it, all I had was a copy of the Trade-me advert and the old registration sticker, plus I knew the original number plate number (the PO had removed the plate but he left it on for his Trade-me photo).
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Cool eh, Scunny comes from the same general area that Burt Munroe made and ran his record breaking bikes so there is a bit of a tradition in the South Island of NZ for producing unique machines.
Not sure where Britton did his best work, but another brilliant Kiwi bike pioneer. :)
Actually if you want to see old bikes that have been loved to death, the Sth Island is the place to go to.
Not sure why, could be the open roads, lack of North Island Highway/Motorway traffic not sure but some of the best rebuilt and cared for old Jap bikes live down there.

unfortunately I'm not in the same league as Burt Munro or John Britten.
but.............after consulting my local publican and following the correct wiring diagram we have blinkers, hopefully get a chance this week or so to have the bike finally legal

I ride mine down for their Vins, hey if the cops pull you over you just tell them where you are going.
My son says the cops very rarely pull bikes over as there isn't much to check, no seat belts or wrong drivers licences etc and most guys riding a nice bike are not likely to be hoons anyway. ;D I'm gonna ride Jaffas' bike down there when it is ready for Vinning he he.
My son has already done some road riding on his and it is yet to be WOFed, we're just rebels I guess.

Hey Brandon, Scunny and I are like 500 miles apart and then there's always that wee bit of water Cook Strait to negotiate, my 650 can't swim, not sure about Scunny's his 650 looks like it might fly if it had wings. :D

still waiting on the plonkers to have a look at it. on the good side I got a declaration from the police that they have no interest in it, last registered in 1991, explains all the gunk in the engine

sorry hush but the weather down here has been good  ;D
have put a few miles on the bike to get a handle on issues that don't show up going around the block.
front end could be better, will change fork weight
brakes are crap, will try and get them less crappy(spoilt by brembo lately)
bike gets a stutter when on the gas for a while, suspect fuel delivery
forgot how heavy those throttle return springs are(harden up sucker)
exhaust is too loud, will revisit my baffle
might consider a wee bit more padding on the seat(harden up man)
smile 2 miles wide  :) :)

Been off this site for a year or so (busy, busy, not enough time etc.) and just found this thread. Fantastic 'Z' love the look. Mine (after along lay-off - same reasons) is close to finishing now.

Take a look at the sig for the build record.
