Hi all,

I'm trying to replace the fork seals on my 1970 CB175 and am stumped. I know it's a twin and not a four, but I cannot seem to reach the hondatwins board. I apologize for my intrusion, and hope someone here can help me on this "outsider" project.

I cannot reach the c-clip in order to release the seal and linkage b/c it's too far down in the recesses of a lengthy cosmetic chrome (outer) sleeve. I look down and can see the clip, but it must be 10 cm down there. Much too far away for my pliers.

I'm ASSUMING the chrome outer sleeve must be removed for the c-clip to be reachable. I notice the fork has been machined with a notch adjacent to the bottom of the sleeve. I'm thinking that must be a spot for a punch, so as to drive the sleeve upwards and off the fork. I've been reluctant to hit it too hard. I've attached a picture, and marked the chrome sleeve with a piece of masking tape in case I've nor been clear. You'll see the notch in the photo.

I'm hoping someone has had a bike like this and can provide info. Advice appreciated.

On my CB350 I removed them by carefully tapping them out with a flat screwdriver, a thick one, working gradually around the perimeter. Once they move they become looser and is easier. It is like if the fork is slightly tapped and the biggest pressure is at the final position.
