Front fender is interesting.  Is a transplant from another make / model bike?  As some others have said, that long exhaust hanger really detracts from an otherwise nice and clean job . . . .

i posted it once before but no one could figure it out. something aftermarket from back in the days. the PO was a bike mech. so he gave the bike the "hook up".

gosh, i already found some boo boo's. i lowered the bike and had to compensate the front by pushing the forks down. now when the bike bottoms out, the fender smacks the oil cooler and brake lines in the junction.  >:( jeez, i just spent the entire week prepping, painting, and finishing that fender and tank. i'll need some sorta abrasion stickers like the ones for gas tanks.

 no prob.

here was the first time i laid eyes on her. bought it for $250 off a student at my school. non running of course (you guessed it, valve guides):

sure do miss that OEM right side panel:

powdercoated:

here was the first donar engine. a k5 that was said to be trouble free. turns out it burned a lot of oil. i just resold it and got another. the 2nd turned out to be another k5. sucks cause i didn't have the time to polish the second engine's covers.

phenoloc pistons since my oem ones were shot (thanks to kevin400f):

rolling. still has the first donor engine

last pic i had before i swapped back to the air box and painted everything. this now has the second donor engine.

that's pretty much it. now if you want more pics of more projects, get ready to hold on to your pants. hold on a sec....

ok....

my "soon to be racer", but nowhere near soon enough. CB750A chassis with the F2 engine from my bike.

73K. sold the jardines and got a set of HM341's. this one i'm gonna keep. it's going back to stock

74K. i'll spend the rest of the semester rebuilding this one to stock. i'll resell it and hopefully make some extra change.

and then if you seen it in the sohc4 forum, my 915cc engine i'm going to rebuild sometime.

to much to do, not enough money or time...time in the short term sense unless i'm unpredicting something  :o. it'll get done in the long run...oh yes  ;D

it's a composite/resin. sorta like fiberglass or carbon fiber. withstands high temps and resistant to some chemicals, i.e. brake fluid

Kevin400 deals them, he had this to say about them:

Quote
They are phenolic material (a thermosetting non-metallic composite).  The basic pistons I use are intended for a Lincoln LS sedan.  I don't alter the OD sealing surface, simply cut them to proper length and put a bevel on the bore to clear the raised projection on the back side of the brake pad.

Apparently this eliminates the need for that gasket in the caliper.

took the bike out for it's first REAL ride (and mine). rode from ft. leonard wood to KC which is about a 200 mile ride one way. some backroads and interstate. did real well on the way up. only problem i faced was boredom on the interstate from riding in a straight line. i couldn't get an accurate reading on my mph since the speedo was jumping from 60 to 90. it held 5k rpm's for the majority of the ride without hesitation.

the way back started off well until i was 60 miles out from KC. i just happened to glance at my inst. panel and see my oil light flicker. pulled off the hwy, parked, got off the bike, and noticed the bike was smoking. oil was covering the engine and burning off the headpipes. after a minute i found the problem. turns out an oil cooler line busted on me. the line runs a little close to the exhaust. looking at the hose, it wasn't melted. looked more like a rupture. maybe the heat and rubbing (headpipies are wrapped with fiberglass wrap) caused it to fatigue. just happen to be stuck right in front of a gas station i stopped at on the ride up but also happed to be located out in po'dunk. talked to the gas station attendant for phone numbers for the closest napa/o'reilly's/autozone. turns out the nearest one was 20 miles away. it was a sunday so all the local shops were closed (had an abundant supply of farm and tractor stores nearby). sherrif stopped by to help and remembered one of the locals rode stunt bikes and had a shop full of supplies. 10 minutes later the sherrif returned with a new hose and i was good to go. stopped at an autozone to get some heat wrap for the oil line so i wouldn't have another incident. made it back fine but everytime i stopped at an intersection the bike just lit up in smoke that was still burning off the exhaust wrap. i'll probably look into some steel braided lines.

oh, and my tumber for the gas lid busted.

All in all that's not too bad.  It's funny how sometimes we get stranded in the perfect place, sometimes not.
Ever been to San Diego?  Look up Coronado bridge.  If you haven't heard of it, it's just a hella long bridge that makes a real good climb up before coming down to Coronado Island.  Man it must climb about 1,000 or so feet, and it's at least 3 or 4 miles long. Anways, my truck ran outta gas on THAT.  Helpful passerby?  In San Diego?  Not in your life.  It's nice there, but don't count on John J. DoGood to come cruising by.  Long story short, I got outta there, but was soooooo tired when I got back.

Bad cable can cause that.  Have you checked/lubed it?

All in all, not bad for a 400 mi round trip.  Sounds like overall the bike performed well.

Smoke may be from oil soaked into exhaust wrap.

it's a new cable but i think it does need to be lubed. at highway speeds i think the cable is binding and then springing back out which makes the speedo "bounce".

i probably rode an extra 100 miles since the end of my trip and i think i just finally burned off all the oil  :D

i have a wierd clunking now coming from up front. i want to say it's the bearings. 31K miles on the bike on original bearings, what do you think?

My 78F's bearings were shot at 22K miles.

I'm replacing them with tapereds.

Nice work mate!
