Turn signal buzzer

Is the turn signal buzzer a common item to take off? Is it annoying or something? I was trying to troubleshoot the electrical and I couldn't figure out where it was located...(oh yeah, that's because it isn't there!) So, lets say I left it off. What resistance should be left in place? Would I want to leave it off?

There's an ebay auction for one. I'm guessing that this should work on a 77 CB550F?

My K0 never had one, and I can't say I've ever actually encountered a CB that still had it installed, so unfornunately I can't say whether it's annoying, but I'd bet a dollar that it is :D

I don't think you'd need to substitute in any resistance if you left it off.  The bikes that I've worked on which lacked them didn't have anything attached to the leads, they were just left loose.

Mine's still on, and I like it that way. I thought about taking it off until I accidentally rode around for five minutes with the signal on and only noticed when a car cut right in front of me, thinking I was turning.

Plus, the buzzer doesn't come on if you move the turn signal switch only partway, so I can choose if I want to leave it off at long lights.

Didn't have mine either, just a vetter.  Had to find fork ears, headlight, signals, and the buzzer came with the ears.  Hooked it up and it works as a good reminder but is almost as loud as my horn so it is unhooked now.

I'm guessing a resistor of equal value to the buzzer would satisfy the flasher.  I disconnected mine, now my flasher doesn't flash unless I only move the switch part way, I guess I find the right amount of resistance with the switch.  I would also think that different bulbs might do the trick, but not sure.

Now to measure the buzzer's resistance -after I find it again.  If it's like everything else today, it's still on the headlight ear(looked for my lighter that was in my hand, looked for my keys that were in my ignition -I can tell I took some pain pills yesterday).

When I bought my 750 in 2000,it had the buzzer.It lasted all of 10 minutes!!!! That was probably the most obnoxious thing I have ever seen on a bike!You can just cut it off and cap the wires....no problemo.

I try to restore the buzzer on every bike I get.  The ones that don't get restored are the ones that I find have been blinking for god knows how many miles, while riding.  I figure the cagers are confused enough without me adding to the  ???.

The turn buzzer is powered by it's own voltage source.  Whether it is connected or not does not change the winking speed.

there's supposed to be a buzzer telling me the turns are still on.....

well.... ill have to investigate this... as ive not heard anything while testing the lights out.

Ok, good to know. The lone hanging wire in behind the headlight made me nervous. I bid on the ebay buzzer anyway, we'll see what happens with that.

I guess I was concerned about it because I haven't figured out why the two front blinkers are always on until I hit the turn signal. Then the signals go on in back, and the opposite front signal is on. Switch problem? Signals seem to take a long time to start blinking too. I actually feel like ripping out all the crusty wiring and starting over...along with everything else...painting the engine, frame, and battery box...and...

I think the first year to have the turn buzzer was 74.

The front turn fixtures use 2 filament bulbs (1034).  The dimmer filament behaves as run lights.  The brighter filament is the turn flasher.  The turn switch turns off the run filament so it will wink bright/dark instead of bright/dim.
The Blue and Orange wires control the flashing.  The Blue/White and Orange/White wires control the front run filaments.

Disconnected mine and never went back......it just unplugs from the wiring harness, and you don't need any resistors in it's place.  I was thinking of using it to buzz when the oil pressure drops or some other useful purpose.
I don't think I need the thing to remind me of the turn signals since I got into the instinctive habit of turning off the signals imediately after making a turn.

people think you're backing up at stop lights.  shutting it off by habit is the best way but has anyone come up with a better alternative to the dim-ass dash light/buzzer combo?

I've often thought that a solenoid that taps on bars would be a good improvement over the buzzer. Still haven't gotten around to the implementation though.

My K2 750 has the buzzer and it was still hooked up, obnoxious as hell!!  I tried to leave it on and get used to it, but I got tired of everyone looking and pointing when I was waiing to turn.  It has the cancel button also, but that's just one more thing to distract me when I'm riding.  Maybe I could put a ballast resistor in the line to it and knock the voltage in half, and possibly make if half as loud.  Then I think I could tolerate it :D

It's annoying and that's the point! I'm leaving mine on, otherwise I'll leave the damn winkers on for 5 miles. I can just hear it over my exhaust so it's not too terribly bad. I imagine it will be obnoxious at stops, but once you take that turn chances are you'll be able to JUST hear it over the wind/engine/any road noise/other vehicles at higher speeds. I think mine is just right and I'm leaving it on there. With how screwed up the rest of my bike is, I'm surprised the PO left that buzzer on there :D.

Not sure why, but my '76 550 stops buzzing when I stop at lights.  It's starts up again when I start moving.  It's not terribly loud either, so I don't mind it..

Isn't it embarassing when you leave your turn signal on for too long??? Damn I hate that but not anywhere as much as the sound of that beeper!!!! I also hate cars like 80's Chryslers that talk to you and tell you sh!t like your door is ajar. If I buy any car like that......those units are imediately eliminated!!!!

I like the buzzer on my '77 550 K.

Have found numerous times..that cars & people pay attention to my presence..and fact that there's a bike there getting ready to turn..when it's on.

Maybe this is similar to the "loud pipes save lives" mentality (which I don't agree with)..but I think it's a lot less annoying/obtrusive than always having unmuffled pipes.

You can always override the buzzer by not pushing the turn signal switch all the way..which I do when I don't want to attract attention.  But basically I'd say (after riding many years W/O one) that basically they're a good thing.

Seems pretty humorous that the ones with the least tolerance for the noisy turn buzzer, also have the loudest pipes.

I suppose it's all a matter of who the noise is directed at, and which noise is considered "manly".
