Old Bike Barn Delivery - reliable?
« on: August 05, 2008, 12:28:46 PM »
:( I've had a Dyna 1S on order with Old Bike Barn for going on 3 weeks now - every time I check they say "soon" but don't give me a date.  There are many other sources - can anybody tell me if OBB is reliable (1st time I've ordered from them). About ready to cancel and start over again just because I get no feedback.

Thoughts - getting tired of waiting - keep putting off:
- installing new starter switch
- Replacing plugs
- Rebuilding carbs
- resysncing carbs
- playing with LED lights

Because I want to do it all at once and need that Dyna 1S.

I've ordered from them a couple times and never had a problem. If you get tired of waiting, call and cancel the order.

OBB has be complained about over and over again in this forum.  Your type of experience is why.  Look in the Review section of the forum or just search for "Old Bike Barn" from the Tech Forums page.

I bought a dyna setup from Z1 for my 750 - had it in about 3 days.  Those guys are awesome.

Great - I will verify if my 400 has an early style advancer (13.5) or late (15mm) - per z1 - tonight (something OBB didn't even mention) and if my OBB has not shipped by morning, I will cancel and re-order from Z1 - well if I can get internet access tomorrow (out of the office).

Another vote for Z1  -  ordered a few times from them.  Always got what I wanted in a timely fashion
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

Z1 is the sh!t. if you are able to cross reference parts from other bikes, he has more than what he lists for a specific bike. probably the best prices and service on the net for vintage bikes. right next to partsnmore.

Okay - update.

My OBB order was still "pending fulillment".  I contacted Z1 to see the avaliablity of my DNS-1 for my 400.  In stock.

So - I canceled the OBB order and placed the Z1 order.

Z1 - saw my order and based on my shipping choice thought "I bet this guy wants this by this weekend, and using what he picked it won't get there till Monday"  They contacted me and said "if you use xxx" it will get there on Fri or Sat- it is a couple bucks more - do you want that?

The answer was, of course, yes!

Wow!

I see what the OBB weirdness is about now as well. Tore my engine down thinking I'd have studs in a week. When week 2 rolled around I called and got "real soon now" so cancelled and ordered from CycleX.

OBB seems fine and good enough if they have the parts on hand. Wonder why they don't list in-stock on their website? Unless they just don't have a lot in stock?

The were also very nice about canceling the order and crediting me - no problems as all.  I think they probably just don't deal with specialized orders as well as some.

Of course you can! One thing, the connector that dyna includes to splice into the coils STINKS. You have to prep the wire first by cutting the insulation where the connection will be made. OR use a better connector.

I've only dealt with them once.  I live on the west coast of canada so i was expecting a wait for the parts (float needles and bowl gaskets). I figured 5 business days + 2-4 more to get 2 gaskets (didn't have 4 in stock) it was about a week and a half when i got them.  All in all, fairly cheap parts and decent delivery time.  I'd give them a 3 out of 5. Nothing special and nothing horrible. But now that i've found Z1 and their cheaper stuff I'm going to give them a try.
